2gb is needed now for fear for high settings

I have read that people needed 2gb of ram for the newer games but i never really believed it. So i install fear on my system it only has a gig of ram in it. i thought that would be enough. It and windos at a descent resolution eat up about 1.2 gigs of ram which means it was hitting on the hard drive. i wondered why the game was being so jerky. I coulnd't hardly believe it. i have a amd 64 3400 processor and a x850xt pe edition card that i just bought. it looks like i'll have to buy more memory now. lol. oh well just thought i would pass it along you need 2 gb for the game fear now.

Nope. FEAR runs fine on my 1gb system.

seriously, that's good. but do you have x64 though. maybe that is why it is a bit sluggish on my system. i know x64 takes a little bit more memory. i ran the demo ok but the retail game takes over a gig on my system for some reason.

Thats true, my friend owns dual 7800GTX and he's a big gamer. He started playing FEAR last week and said that it is a bit choppy on 1GB RAM, the next day 2GB RAM was already in his hands. Some people really do blow money. How I wish I could.:D

Yeah, seriously. To have that kind of cash floating around to spend whenever you want must be nice.

The game is full of that problem, but not to a point when it's unplayable. I gone through the whole game and it jerked around 5% of the entire time.

Doesn't everything that it's just a matter of time before 2GB becomes the norm for higher systems?

I remember everyone saying 1 gig would be more than enough, now its the standard for smooth games.

Re: 2gb is needed now for fear

Nope. Just regular XP Pro.

Athlon64 (Winchester) 3200, stock.
1GB PC3200.
6600GT (OC: 525/1050).

EDIT: Turn off soft shadows. Monolith's method of implementing them left a lot to be desired anyway.

Rename the fear.exe file to fea.exe (or something like that) and you should get a giant leap in performance if you're running ATI hardware (not sure which but heard it extends all the way to the X700's also).

wow, what a crock of sh^t. Makes you wonder, if software makers rig the game to run bad on systems just so people have to upgrade and buy new hardware. Fishy...

I was having the choppy problem while playing FEAR only when I would turn corners and/or enter new rooms, my fix was to turn down Textures to Medium and now it plays flawlessly.

It has nothing to do with the game makers this time. It's ATi that made optimizations for the demo that did not float well with the retail version. They even admitted it themselves...

Will it run on my system?

xp2600+ @ 2.12ghz
1 gig pc2100 ram (pc2100 is all it can take)
ATI Radeon 9200 REX series 128mb video card

It played the demo pretty well...and I play Raven Shield everyday quite well (high settings)...I know that there isn't any comparison between the two at all..lol. Shouldn't my system be able to play F.E.A.R. on low-medium settings?

actually it was 800*600 at default settings. Not everyone can afford playing a game at super duper crazy high stellar settings....a lot of us have to live in the real world.
