The risk of continuing to use 30gigs.com to receive or send confidential email should be obvious.

Emphasis mine.

There has never been any way to send a confidential email. No matter what email service you use the contents of any email can easily be intercepted and exposed.
Actually, you can get encryption technology that would make use of any pop3 or imap email system secure (even 30gigs.com if they offer pop3 access).

The catch is that you need to trade security certificates with every person you email. Furthermore, you need to use a desktop based email program (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.) to handle the encryption/decryption of the messages.
If you are into WebMail, you can use HUSHMAIL (»www.hushmail.com/). All that is needed is for both you and your recipient to have Free Hushmail accounts. You connect to their Web Mail servers to send/receive messages. They also allow you to send/receive encrypted message to/from non-Hushmail addresses. They are based on PGP PKI encryption so you need PGP to use a MUA as opposed to a Web Browser (the Web Interface handles the encryption/decryption for your Hushmail Web Mail Account).

That's not the only problem. If this is your primary/only account, how do you get your bank, web host, cc company, paypal, etc to send you encrypted mail? You can't and are therefore left completely exposed where it counts the most.

True...that is a good point...but still seeing this 30gigs info I will have to pass...

Looks like some major email address harvesting and whatever else is going on...

Granted, but who would you trust a little more? Google, Yahoo, MSN or some fly by night company looking to make a quick buck?
