WaxPhotoI AM SAMPremium join:2004-04-08 Roanoke, IN | Outside URL Link Abbreviations & Direct file links Ok, as it stands now, if someone posts a URL (http included) in a thread, and it is longer than 38 characters or so, it is abbreviated. It takes the first 38 characters and adds a two period elipse to the end.
An example, in this post: »Color correction by the numbers.
In that post, the URL is shortened to:
www.ledet.com/margulis/PP7_Ch02_ByTheN..
from this:
I know that there are many ways (which differ from browser to browser) to see where this link goes before clicking on it, but I think the best way to get across that this link takes you directly to a file is to abbreviate this way:
(Using the same example)
www.ledet.com/margulis/PP7_Ch02...ers.pdf
The above example keeps the 38 character abbreviation, but provides more information about the link. You won't be surprised when you start downloading a file larger than your given web page.

Quite often, people link directly to videos, and when i click on the links, it opens up Windows Media Player. If i had known it was a video they were linking directly to, i would've never bothered clicking on the link in the first place.
What i usually do now is float over the URL and look at the status bar in the browser to see if it's linking directly to a video, audio, etc. It wouldn't hurt if DSLR indicated something like this as well.
Now to figure out a way to see if a link leads to a page with an in-lined video, i hate it when that happens... -- nfx |

Re: Outside URL Link Abbreviations & Direct file l *sign* Seems worth losing a couple characters from the location to show the file extension. |

That's pretty much the fastest response to a feature request that I've seen in the past five years.
