Want a laugh ?? Karaoke VOD big hit on Comcast

Philadelphia's Comcast Corp. says karaoke tunes are climbing the charts at the cable company's on-demand service. Living-room crooners placed 2 million orders in the first month of the musical offering.

And that was without any marketing. Imagine the noise to be made by shower-stall divas, closet balladeers, and rock wannabees now that Comcast is actually promoting the service.

Customers select "Karaoke" from the On-Demand music menu on the service to browse the library. There are several hundred selections, Comcast says, including "Dance to the Music," "Sweet Home Alabama," "Born to be Wild," and "Great Balls of Fire."

Of 114 on-demand services on Comcast, karaoke was 12th last week, just behind MTV music videos, Comcast Cable spokesman Jeff Alexander said.
LOL. I just got this picture of people standing in front of their TV singing the words off the screen to Sonny and Cher's "I got you Babe"(one of the choices). Of course, liberal amounts of alcohol probably make this activity more fun.

*Cringe*

I can see the Phase 5 DVR boxes being built to include a microphone port plus a bad echo chip.

I'm not complaning ... I think it's pretty nifty. After seeing this post, I asked a few other people with digital cable and they like it!

This isn't a new thing, I mean Dish has had a channel for this for awhile. Its very popular, I don't know why, but it's good to know its there for the next drunken party I have.

Select Ondemand is owned by Comcast, so that would explain its exclusivity. Its basically the Comcast equivalent of Magrack, which is owned by Cablevision (but also seen on Brighthouse).

I almost fell off my chair in hysterics when I saw that category...My mother has a voice that could strip paint, & still likes to sing. (She's available for funerals, divorces, & Brises )

I visited my parents today and saw the kareoke thing. It was hillarious! Looks like all the songs are public domain ones.

Well, if you felt patriotic, yesterday being the most American of holidays, you could've sung "The Star Spangled Banner."

Ahhh yes, the Karaoke Channel by Sound Choice. Now being a person who knows a little bit about this channel, I would like to clear up just a few things to properly inform those of you who are interested.

Comcast's channel is FREE to those of you who have Comcast Digital Cable. You can find it under, the On Demand option, Life & Home, then Music, then Karaoke. After that, pick your genre and a song and sing away!!

I don't see DVR's becoming the next Karaoke Machine, but Sound Choice does offer a microphone with reverb and volume controls that you can connect to your entertainment system and sing WITH the music on the TV instead of AT the TV.

Though a lot of the HOLIDAY MUSIC is public domain songs, the rest of the 300 songs (and counting), are songs that are not only hits of the karaoke world, but in the music world as well, like "Sweet Home Alabama", "Tiny Dancer", "Fade", "Drift Away", "Car Wash", and "Oh, Girl". All great songs from 8 different genres of music. Classic Rock, Country, Modern Rock, Oldies, Pop, Rap/R&B, and Specialty. Plus that are more to come!!

Comcast launched this VOD feature a few months ago. They started off with about 300 songs, but that number will grow in the months to follow.

Most importantly, this is real karaoke, NOT MIDI. These songs sound like the originals, but with out the lead vocals.

Any questions? Feel free to ask!!

I think that is what impressed me it was real music, not some cheap midi sounding karaoke.

This is the most awful VOD channel!!!!! I quit drinking 9 years ago. Now I go out with my lady friend and a few friends and they drink a lot (even go to karaoke bar) and come back to my place to drink and sing some more to this crazy channel. It is terrible to be sober and listen to these folks. I need to get rid of the friends or tell them karaoke channel is off the air!!!!
