Comcast to raise rates in Bay Area

»sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f···M9Q1.DTL

Comcast, the Bay Area's dominant cable provider, on Tuesday announced a 7 percent rate increase next year for its most popular cable package.

Comcast Corp is the modern day Scrooge. Time the switch to a Satellite service.

A couple years ago, they had 2 rate increases
in a year!

After Comca$t was set to buy Attbi, I switched
to Dish. Better picture, way cheaper, and no ads
or "Comcastic" spam to the digital box.

Cable rates have gone orbital after the
Cable de-regulation act that was part of the
GOP Contract on America. "Must carry" is what
caused this. Religious programming began to raise
their rates along side ESPN.

19% increase in price over 3 years. I'm sorry did they improve something on those analog channels in the last three years? My line up has stayed the same...

I decided to downgrade to limited basic package. $47 per month is ridiculous. In Santa Cruz I only paid $30. When will SBC's IPTV come?

U can get more HDtv channel OTA(over the air) using a digital set top box, than cable can give u. Learn the aconym atsc...»www.atsc.org/faq_default.html
The BBC is also presenting realtime tv off there website, but aquiring it requires use of proxy servers. IPTV is out there.

LG lst-4200a is a good atsc stb tuner....at $260

7 Percent is nothing compared to the SBC yellow Pages at 10 to 20% a year. These companies that keep hiking the price expect us to pay what 1000 a month to TV or 2000 for one ad a month in the Yellow pages?

When the heck will it stop it has to, that 7percent is above the cost of living this year? Sure everything goes up but what causing it? We know Milk eggs go up and go down but these fixed rate increases... I mean were not talking about yeah my dad could buy a gallon of gas for 5 cents a gallon.... This is way more that that. If folks don't start getting paid more.... man I hate the thought.

They're acquiring our area (Mendocino County) soon (Adelphia is being bought out by Comcast in some areas and Time Warner in others), we're currently an Adelphia area (for High Speed Internet only, we have Directv for our tv service), I hope they leave our prices alone!! Directv has been awesome, they blow digital cable away!

I agree. Not only am I bothered by the delay in uprading their system and their continuing to raise rates, their customer service is non-existant. I called a service rep/tech the other day to help solve a problem, and they referred me to their silly forums!

I don't know how many of you have visited this site (comcast forums), but I found out that it is run by a handful of regular subscribers, not employed by comcast.

These regulars, are usually the smart-ass know it all tech-types, who's combined IQ's equal that of a hard boiled egg, are joined by other regulars, who are old ladies swapping recipes and weather reports.

As comcast referred me to this site, I would guess that they are proud to have these regulars represent the company, which tells me...I will take my business elsewhere.

Thanks for letting me rant.

Yeah. I'm not sure what they are trying to do, besides encouraging the satellites to eat their lunch.

IMHAO, long term Satellite has a much better expandability compared to cable. True, there is a high fixed cos but thats it. Ignoring support/programming costs, its costs them the same for one customer or 40Million.

To add a new customer, they install a new receiver and your all set. For cable to add a new customer, it must install comparatively expensive cabling and repeaters to each neighborhood. Not to mention the constant maintenance required because of the weather. Every 10 years or so they are going to have to have major overhauls.

[okay yes, I'm simplifying it a lot but its pretty valid claim]

The only real benefit I see for cable now is interactive (two-way) communication as thats its main advantage at this point.

I guess I'm a bit late on this thread and am missing the correlation between YP and cable, but...

I'm willing to bet that the return on investment on a YP ad is a lot better than the ROI on paying for cable

$2000/mo for one ad? You must have a full-page or something.
