P2P won't work hardly at all anymore....PLEASE HLP

Hi about two days ago, when i started up limewire as normal, usually it connects almost immeadiately as normal (like its meant to) but this said that I had a firewall, which none were activated at that point and it wouldn't connect. If it connected fully at all then it took about 5-10 mins. When it is connected, whenever i download the sources connect but my download rate NEVER goes above 1kb anymore. I have a 2MB broadband connection and its always worked. I tried another program (Warez) because that always worked for me, they all used to, but Warez does basically the same thing, takes age to connect and downloads at no more than 1kb. Please help, thank you.

Re: P2P won't work hardly at all anymore....PLEASE

It seems something on yourside of the network is causing this issue. Remember that Warez and Limewire connect to the same network, and by observing those result of yours the problem is not software based.

If you can answer some questions posted right before this post, we might have a clearer picture of the situation and might be able to help you.:)

Also my download speeds are sometimes like they are meant to be (i have a 2MB connection) but recently theyre only downloading at a max of say 150kb/s when the max should be 224kb/s. Please take a look at my other thread »Norton Internet Security Problem! because that may be the cause of this problem but I doubt it. Worth taking a look at, thank you.

sounds like your ISP is the problem as they admit to using "network controls to prioritise traffic" and admit that they will limit peer to peer usage if they arbitrarily decide it causes "degraded quality of service for other users".

My hi-speed broadband, Roger's, has also slowed down all P2P traffic....... this should be reason enough to drop them but unfortunately they are the monopoly here in Toronto.

Are you using a program such as NetLimiter to limit the upload bandwidth?

I find that if I strangle the P2P upload too much (I only have 128kbps to play with) then I'll get a message similar to what you get. If that message comes up then my downloads get very sluggish. To fix the problem I just allow a few more kbps on the upload side - this makes the message disappear and the downloads go faster.

With cable, it's a fine line between uploading enough to keep the downloads fast and uploading too much which slows the downloads down again.

i am having the same exact issue. all of a sudden my p2p apps stopped working. i disabled firewalls and tried it all. still nothing. my limewire does not connect AT ALL ANYMORE. and my kazaa connects when it wants to and stops or doesnt download. what i will try and do is connect directly to the cable modem instead of thru the router and see if all of a sudden it was a network/router issue.
or possibly SHARE files. could be something with limewire itself if you don't share they don't let yu connect anymore. who knows. but i will try them both and see.

Re: P2P won't work hardly at all anymore....PLEASE

I have the same problem as well, Limewire worked just a couple of days ago and now it wont connect period. I have Avast! as anti-virus and internet firewall, but I shut of the p2p and network firewall on it's settings so that they arent on guard. My Limewire still fails to connect. I don't know what the problem is. When it used to connect my downloads never went over 5kbs, even though my ISP is 2mbs. Bittorrent works, but it is very slow, rarely going over 10kbs anymore. This all is very disappointing on account I waited such a long time to get broadband just for it to not work like I was told.

and to add to that, I have turned off my firewall completely and Limewire says that it is still running, and still says I have no network connection when I do. Someone please solve this problem.

Did anyone try using the TCP connection patcher. If you make the number of tcp connections larger then you will get a greater chance of connecting in your p2p program. »www.lvllord.de/?lang=en&url=downloads

I am also having the same problem. I have not used limewire in a while. When I started it up today it can't connect. I double checked that my router is port forwarding and my firewall is letting port 6346 open. You can test to make sure the problem is not on your side by going to
»www.grc.com/port_6346.htm

then click on "probe this port" if it comes back as status "open" it should not be the firewall blocking. If it come back closed. This will tell you it is your firewall.

I am not sure what else to check. Does anyone else know of any other P2P apps that work good?

If it comes back Stealth. This means that your router or computer firewall is blocking the port you tested.

This is a problem for me as well, everything I download are very slow. 3-5kb/sec. I think they are laughing their ass off behind our backs. Pushes us back to dialup age doesn't it?

Re: P2P won't work hardly at all anymore....PLEASE HLP

Hi. I've noticed that since Christmas Talktalk have totally blocked P2P usage of all types, 24 hours a day. It used to be between 4pm and midnight but now it's 24 hours. I use limewire and bittorrent and none now work at all. Talktalk have conned thousands of customers into signing up for their "unrestriced" service and P2P users and online gamers now find their internet connections useless for anything but web browsing.
It's disgusting really that an ISP should be allowed to get away with this and I for one hope that enough people leave them because of this for them to go out of business. I, for one will be dumping them the moment my contract is up along with many others. I'll be more careful in my choice of ISP next time.
