Can Cisco VPN Client connect to FVS318?

Hi all,

Does anyone know how to set up Cisco vpn client software and FVS318 router settings to create vpn? Are there any specific configurations to use eg. MTU on router, or where do you create the group ID or certificates for vpn client?

If Cisco vpn client doesn't work with FVS318, are there any other VPN client softwares available to enable VPN before logon to Windows itself?

Many thanks.

First of all you need to go into the VPN settings on the FVS318 Next you need to select 1 of the available VPN settings and then edit. Enter the connection names (remote VPN) then Local IPSec identifier (your side of the connection) then the remote IPSec identifier (remote side) these can be any names u like. In the “Tunnel can be accessed from” select single/subnet of local address (ie the IP address of your network behind the router). Then enter the Local IP in LAN start IP (you internal LAN ie 192.168.0.1 mask 255.255.255.0) this means any pc in your network can access the VPN connection or you can lock it down to 1 if you want by selecting the single local address.

The next part is for the remote connection enter the details of the remote clients LAN in the next steps as you did with you local LAN. Then enter the remote IP address of the VPN client (the IP address assigned by their ISP) in the “Remote WAN IP or FQDN”.

All the above steps are to grant what each side of the VPN can access. The next steps are for the security of the connection.

Secure Association – Leave as Main Mode
Perfect Forward Secrecy – enabled
Encryption Protocol – I usually use 3DES
PreShared Key – make 1 up using letters and numbers but make a note of it as you will not be able to see it once you have entered it (just like passwords)
Key life and IKE life time you can leave as is
NETBIOS enable it if you use it its optional

Then apply

All you have to do now is set up the cisco VPN client with the same details and your in. I cant remember all the cisco option tabs but if you are still having problems I can look into it for you.

The router settings has been done. As for the Cisco VPN client, the properties tab consists of authentication, transport, backup servers and dial-up.

I'm having problem with the authentication part.
There are choices of either group authentication, mutual group authentication and certificate authentication.
Where do I obtain the name and password? Is it to be specified at my router side? Do I still need to create a certificate for authentication?
