Smatchimo, the address for the petition is not a link. And when I try getting there via Google with I get a page that says "deactivated due to inactivity, archived off server 2004.0528"
Also, as Sharon asked, why are they illegal here?

According to the letter, which sadly has a spelling error, it was feared that ferrets would overpopulate.
People have pet rats and mice, so how would this be any different? I have not heard of other states having a ferret population problem, then again, why would I know? I don't go seeking that information...

If ferrets were to escape into the wild and start breeding they would have to hunt for food. The fear is that ferrets would have disastrous effects on the native wildlife populations. Of course the ferret supporters feel this type of anti-ferret argument has little to no merit. For more information about ferrets in general and keeping ferrets as pets look at.

Since ferrets are related to weasels I assume they would hunt the same types of food. Weasels prefer eating rodents ( rats, mice, squirrels etc) but then can also eat birds, fish and insects. |

They have them for pets in many other states, I know a few who have them in the Pocatello area in SE Idaho, I remember seeing a few people walk them at Idaho State when we lived in Poky, cute little guys! They are very gentle and excellent with kids, and smart as a whip, not to mention very curious. I'd support this. They already sell the food and other care products in the pet stores here. |

Animals should be in their own habitat or what’s left of it. Trying to adapt/confine them to our surroundings and lifestyle is very cruel. Almost all “pet” birds, turtles, fishes and ferrets are caged/enclosed in small tanks for the duration of their lives.
Dogs, cats, lamas, etc are another story but no one here cares  |

kudos:1 | I think you are getting this mixed up, we're all talking about (at least I thought we were?) animals born and raised in captivity, not taking wild animals and putting them into a house, I agree that would be wrong too. |
