I am looking to buy a decent midsize car. For some reason i like the luminas. It will be my first car so i want a nice reliable car. If i get one it will be like a 98 or 99. I was just wondering what you guys thought about luminas. thanks. |

| reply to mikep2389 My mother-in-law has a '99, pretty decent car. Work has a couple in the motor pool too, cheap but dependable enough.
I rented a '96 once but turned it back before I left the lot 'cause my knees kept hitting the dash bolster. The wife had a '94 that was decent too. Cheap and easy to get parts for, hard to go wrong if it's comfortable for you. -- Life is a journey; death is a given. |

| reply to mikep2389 They aren't bad. I don't care for the looks of that car in those years, but they do take a beating. If you can swing the payment, try looking at the Grand Prix of those years. They may cost a tad more, but I think they look a lot nicer, have more pep and they last just as long. |

They tend to leak coolant on these and it's a costly repair. Have it checked out by a mechanic before you buy it. |

I have no personal experience with Luminas but I think they are kinda comparable to the Buick Century.
If you want a reliable & dependable car, then may I suggest either a Honda Accord or a Toyota Camry. -- Honor. Courage. Commitment. -United States Marine Corps |

We've had 4 cars with 3.1s from 94-2003 only the 03 hasn't had this problem yet.. seems to occur between 90-140k -- '91 Volvo 240; 252,400 miles and counting. All original! |

| reply to mikep2389 I have a 1992 Chevrolet Lumina with 230,000 kms... Most reliable car I've ever owned... Never had the coolant leak problem... but it does leak a bit of oil... About 1/2 litre every 5-6 weeks... Very little rust and the underneath is like new... Apparently GM used galvanized steel in key areas...
Most dependable car I've ever owned... I would take one of these over a Camry or Accord any day... The Impala is also the replacement for the Lumina and is built upon the same W body platform (Lumina, Buick Century, Pontiac Grand Prix, Chevy Monte Carlo, Olds Cutlass, Buick Regal)... |

| My buddies got a 1992 or 93 lumina with 120000 odd miles, the thing sat in tall grass for 3 years, and it still started on the first crank.
he's never had major trouble, but it does burn some oil. -- I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed opponant. |

| reply to mikep2389 Just curious, why the Lumina? It has been discontinued so good luck finding parts for it.
If you want a midsize sedan built by Chevy, then look into the Impalas. -- Don't fcuk with the United States Military or you'll get your ass handed to you. Just surrender, kk? |

I do agree that the Impala is a good choice as well. |

If you want a midsize sedan built by Chevy, then look into the Impalas. The engine in the Lumina is a GM corporate 3.1 that is used in many GMs... As are most other parts... It's never a problem to find parts for a GM... I can still get alot of parts for my 1960 Corvette over the counter at a GM dealership, NAPA/UAP or Canadian Tire... That's one of the beauties of owning a GM... |

| reply to mikep2389 I love my 97 Lumina LS. So much so that I plan on dumping a rebuilt engine in it when this one goes.
