Re: [iO] Why do people complain about IO pricing?

I pay Cablevision $46/month (soon to go up!) for Family Cable, and I think that's too much. iO would cost me another $15.19/month, an increase of 33%(!), with just one digital box. Why would I want to increase my bill by 33%?

You wouldn't unless you were going to get additional value from making the change. It would be the same as someone coming to YOU and say I pay $20 for basic TV, why would I pat $46/mo which is 100%+ increase?

If they offered foreign language channels, you might be interested (based on past posts). Let's say it was $10/mo more. You might be interested since you'd get value from adding that package and that cost. I wouldn't. Doesn't mean it's wrong that you're increasing your cost 20%.

No added value to you, no reason to change.

I'm not entirely sure what I'd get by "upgrading" from Family Cable to iO plus a digital box. Probably a bunch of channels that I'd never watch (can you say "al-a-carte"?). But based on the amount of advertising CV does for iO, they must make a ton of money on it.

Digital TV is High Fixed cost business, where a large infrastructure is needed to support the customers, no matter how many customers there are subscribed. CV was losing customers to Sat. prior to iO. Since iO they have been adding customers. New customers are profitable to add as long as the revenue they provide covers the marginal cost of their addition.

By moving analog customers to iO they free up bandwidth and allow the addition of new or improved services allowing them to compete more effectively.
