Re: Zone Alarm upgrade problem...

OK, I found the Command Window. I followed the prompts as specified, and this did result in a clean uninstall. No folders left behind. Unfortunately that didn't help; I am still cut off from internet access on that machine, just as before. I tried installing the ancient Version 2.6 but that causes a crash during installation.
What about this set of instructions? Any good?

Re: Zone Alarm upgrade problem...

Those are the manual instructions for uninstall. Those are the same as the ones you'll find on my site. So yes they are official and worth following.

Try using the /CLEAN method mentioned above without all the command prompt instructions. Then try to install the new build. You might get lucky and have this work. Keep in mind that new builds have a process to backup your settings.

Upgrading from a 4 year old build of ZoneAlarm was not a bad choice. It was a good decision if you take security seriously in my opinion.

For others who may finally wise up and make this leap. Keep in mind there have been major changes in the code of the software over the years. A full uninstall of the older build and then a clean install of the newer version is always advised when making this big of a jump in build numbers.
