with a program that uses 100 percent CPU the whole time it's open, it's a chat program, called The Palace Avartar chat, it was originally written for Windows 98/ME, but works in XP sorta, just uses alot of processor. |

| Nope. Some people run Folding (search for Cancer cure?), Distributed.net (to prove security restrictions are to conservative), or SETI@Home (to search for Extraterrestrial life) which keep their CPUs at 100% for extended periods of time. As long as you have proper cooling for your CPU & Case all should be fine... -- -BKuhl

| ok that is good, if i ever get a second PC, i'm gonna commit either this one or new one to Folding, since I've lost too many people to cancer so far in my young life..(it's hard enough to handle as it is)
Now if I could get rid of all the blue screen of deaths, I may actually be happier a bit..but it is running better than it was.

| well I"ll post all the events in there, and see if anyone can determine what are causing those then.

1 edit | This is what it does show, all those System Error's/Save Dumps..but sometimes it works ok, Antivirus won't update, but it may later possibly. All I really want is it fully fixed and working great again. Been this way since end of July/August/September/October/November,(sorta better a bit now, but not fully)
antivirus is with SBC/Yahoo Online Protection..but it may eventually update right, was yesterday just fine. |

I would uninstall your anti-virus software and reinstall the AV software. It might also be malware that has screwed up your AV installation. May want to run any on line AV scanners to double check. »housecall60.trendmicro.com/en/st···?id=scan Also a spyware detection and removal tool.
May also be your memory and I would suggest you run memtest86 overnight. -- Look for bad caps!!! 2.5/384 only $19.99 6/512 5 Ip's $79.99 |

3 edits | Well I have uninstalled and reinstalled SBC Online Protection twice in last month, I plan on doing memory test overnight, I have run online virus scans, time 4 of them, Symantec, Mcafee, housecall, Panda activescan, all clean), and spyware scans with SBC online protection one, Ms Antispyware, Spybot, Adware one after the other, all clean as well.
if ram passes, then only thing left I guess is processor, already got new case/power supply, tested hard drives with Western Digital Tool, bought Spinrite 6.0 tester, fine with that, took to PC shop 2-3 times, with no success.
In my minidump folder I have 44 files, that's how much it has crashed
Should I reinstall Norton Antivirus 2005? and get rid of SBC online Protection, and see if that solves my problem
I"m willing to try anything now. |

1 edit | 1)I would turn down any over clocking(if any). 2)Then I would test the ram. 3)If the ram passes the test and the system continues to have problems then remove one stick of ram to see if symptoms persist, provided there are two sticks otherwise proceed to the next step. 4)Then, if your still having problems I would back up all the data that is important and do a fresh install of the OS. 5)Also the problem may be a malfunctioning motherboard in which case you would need to test all the hardware on a known good motherboard.

3 edits | well I don't have any other machine to test all the hardware on, and Mom certainly wouldn't let me on her's at all, there is only 1 stick of ram, no overclocking at all, Fresh install I can do a 3rd time in last 2 months..should i go with 60gb master or make 80gb master, and install that way.
Motherboard I don't know if was new or not, when they replaced it in June, since old one was causing Machine_check_exception errors.
also more info:
When I run chkdsk, it keeps saying both hard drives have problems, but spinrite, and Western Digital Tool said they are fine, no bad sectors, or anything, but did notice in Spinrite program, alot of cabiling errors i guess under smart tab, on Master hard drive, 60gb, and 1 on the 80gb slave.
Should I remove the 60gb, and just use the 80gb?
Motherboard is Gigabyte 7VT600P-Rz |

| I would go with the easiest path first and remove all anti-virus software and not traverse to any dangerous or potentially dangerous web sites or run any potentially dangerous installations. | well memory test ran for 9 hours, and had 30 errors, so I guess it's ram causing all my problems. Now i gotta see if I can even afford a new ram stick, I know I can't not right away, so I guess will just have to deal with the crashing a little more until I can afford it, and also have to get my girlfriends christmas gift in the mail soon. |
