 FIOS availability map now online

»/gmaps/fios

It should work ok in firefox and MSIE, and it should allow you to put a "pin" at or near where you live (no need to give away your exact address) that indicates you are currently on FIOS

I'll be adding a few more features over the next few days. The delete-me link will appear shortly.

I added my location and it showed on the map when I added it (your location has been saved), but when I click on the map to view it again at »/gmaps/fios , it's not there.

It also says:
Return to View All to see your location in context

The page where the map is says "back to view mode". I assume those are the same?

When zoomed in, after you click, the pin should appear AND a dialog box should pop up saying your location has been saved.

I just added myself ok and there were two pins. Then I deleted myself (obviously, I don't have fios).

PsiReaper See Profile went in ok.

If you really can't get it to take, post your browser?

edit: and yeah I'll be tweaking the messages.

It shows up when I add it and says I was added but it's not there when I go back and look again at the map.

I'm using Maxthon (IE shell) and have used Frapr with it without issue.

I see YACO has been able to add himself as well. I'll try a different browser.

Ok - I also have to fix the pop-ups from the red pins as well.

Here's a screenshot that shows when I add my location, but it doesn't show. I'll try plain old IE next.

Worked in plain old IE. Odd that I would get all message boxes and a pin showing that everything was successful but it didn't take. Oh well... time to head home.

Doesn't work for me in Mac or Linux

I tried:

MacOS X/Firefox 1.07
MacOS X/Safari
Debian Linux/Firefox 1.04
Debian Linux/Epiphany

none of which worked for me. (Or I would have added my location.)

Re: FIOS availability map now online

"The Google Maps API key used on this web site was registered for a different web site. You can generate a new key for this website at »www.google.com/apis/maps/." appears if you try accessing it from broadbandreports.com, instead of dslreports.com.

that is right. Since broadbandreports.com will soon redirect anyway (when you logout) just login at www.dslreports.com and use the url from there?

No, it is that the google map api has a "key" which is tied not just to the domain, but the full URL as well.

I could get it working under BBR by getting another API key. I'll probably do that for completeness.

In the meantime - lets see this map fill out! If you have privacy concerns then just tag the road or the nearest junction rather than your exact location. Perhaps I can also add a checkbox for complete privacy if that REALLY is a problem.

The issue was with Maxthon, an browser that uses IE's engine. It would accept the map point (see prev screenshot) as if everything was fine, but it wasn't there when I viewed the points.

When I used IE (vs IE within Maxthon) it seemed to work fine. I haven't ran into issues with Maxthon and other Google maps pages.

Dave,
I thought it could be your "ONT" I would suggest you may need to replace it
