Motorola DCT6200/2005 Closed Caption Problem

Hello All,

I have a Motorola DCT6200/2005 STB from Comcast.
I have turned on the closed caption from the user menu
(Power Off then MENU button). I chose CC1 for analog and
Primary Language for digital.

I have used both coaxial output and S-video from the
STB for my TV and DVR (ReplayTV) respectively.

Unfortunately, there are no closed caption from both outputs.

If I turn on the CC support from my TV, I can see the
CC decoded by the TV.

Everything was working properly before Comcast upgraded
the "blue menu" software to the STB, i.e. both coaxial
output and S-video output can see the CC from the STB
without no problem. Since the upgrade, the CC from the
STB is no longer working.

Initially, I thought the STB was damaged because of the
upgrade, so I went to the Comcast office and exchanged for
another STB. However, it is the same problem.

Anyone see the problem before with the Comcast DCT6200 STB??

I really need the CC working (decode) from the STB.

I called the Comcast support but they said they had not
seen this problem before.

Any clue...

Thanks,

Yes, they've seen this problem before. I reported the same problem with my DCT-5100. CC stopped working after the iGuide upgrade. Comcast dispatched a tech to confirm, tech had no idea how to fix this (understandable from his perspective) and escalated internally.
That was 2 months ago...no fix of course!

Interesting. I am having this exact problem with a DCT6200 attached via component to a 30" Philips HDTV. I have another DCT6200 in my bedroom on a standard definition Toshiba 20" FST PURE via S-video and CC works fine there. I am not sure about my 65" Mitsubishi HDTV downstairs, will have to try it.

Any known fix for this? The CC feature on the box settings is bad.

It seems that I am not alone

Really want to know whether there is a fix for it.

Erikw2: If you swap your two DCT6200 between the HDTV and
SDTV, will they both work? Is it a strictly software problem?

I can take a look at this when I get home.

This appears to be a bigger problem BTW. On my 5100 and now on my new 3412, CC seems to be broken when 4:3/480i override is enabled in the power-menu settings. If you leave all content as 1080i or 720i, CC is working fine both digital & analog.

Again, this started happening with the new iGuide download, it was fine before with 4:3 override enabled.

Let me know if you see the same behavior.
