This is a real kicker lol

As I'm on FiOS (happily) but had been an OOL customer for years I suggested a neighbor try OOL first at the new discounted rate ($23.95) if not happy the family has the opportunity to swap to FiOS as it's in my entire neighborhood giving them options. We went to the OOL site, plugged in their address (same street as mine) and it says it unavailable? They know more than half the people in the neighborhood that are using broadband are on OOL and almost the other half are on FiOS now so they knew it IS available.

End of story they ordered FiOS as their web page was accurate but why would OOL say it's not available when it is? Years ago it told me when it became available on this street. Someone made a boo boo but who knows how many others there are that are causing them to lose business. Just an FYI for whatever it's worth. I guess better to call?

Maybe they are just giving up on FIOS territory. Too costly to signup a customer at a discount, only to have them switch after a couple of months to FIOS.

Nah, that is giving them too much credit. Just an error.

Just because it's available at your house doesn't mean it is available at someone else's.

If they were truly interested in OOL they should have simply called, it may have been an error.

Josh, if I can recall correctly. I think OOL is setup by grids, not houses. So if your next door neighbor has OOL, I would highly doubt that the one next to it would not be able to get it. Once again, this is what I think I remember from speaking to a tech with a brain on my street. Everything I pretty much say on this site is wrong, and anytime I do have something add, its incorrect as well...but hey. I dont have to be smart to make 100k, i just have to act smart.

But anyway, if OOL is setting up areas by grids, then you should be able to get OOL. I doubt they are setting them up on a house to house/connection by connection basis,,

Unless thats not what you mean josh.

Its quite simple. If they have Cablevision, they can get OOL. Thats it, end of story.

Cablevision announced about a year ago that they had 100% of their service area passed for OOL and it was available in all areas.

If the website told them otherwise, it was Cablevision's loss, Verizon's gain.

I remember when OOL was available in the building next to mines and not mine even though the two buildings touched.
I remember when IO was available across the street but not here.

Josh? You're kidding right?? That was a joke?

I said that the entire neighborhood has it. More than half are on OOL that use broadband and about 35 percent now on FiOS that were unhappy with node congestion and slow speeds during peak hours. (If I got a referral fee from VZ I would be doing well haha! All I did was show friends the speed tests on all computers in this home at 8 pm and they ran home to check theirs, order placed within a day or two, thankfully this neighborhood and surrounding ones have "options")

They are 2 doors away and OOL has been in my town for a long time even in all condos, townhomes 5 miles away. It's been in this neighborhood for well over 5 years, each and every home and the people before them had it. Yes they have CV for their TV service.

Errors like that cost business, I just wonder how many there are. Going to try a few streets in this town and see what happens just out of curiousity.

Off to upload a 500 meg file to a friend while sleeping with no worries of being capped, no it is NOT music or illegal Josh.

I don't know if this is a true statement, but if CV has an agreement for an entire town, then they shouldn't even be doing address lookups. The entire zip code should come back as "Yes". As Rick mentioned, OOL is 100% deployed to CV's customer base, or so they say.

Yup - CV's loss and Verizon's gain. Maybe if someone from CV sees this, they'll change the lookup to be by zip instead of address or however they do it now.

This isn't true everywhere. There's a section of Piscataway (one of those "communities"--Pleasant View Gardens) that has service from Comcast, so while there isn't an overbuild, there are two companies in the town.

You're really educated. Everyone knows that OOL's service area is 100% according to OOL.

Cablevision does have an agreement for the entire Township of Piscataway, but they were not invited into this development community. Lucky for me, they were invited, and accepted the invitation for mine.

Before I moved to Poughkeepsie, I checked my address to be sure I could transfer my OOL service, and the website also said that it was NOT available. I called Cablevision to get a definitive answer but couldn't get one. I was told by the CSR that my house "probably is digital ready, but they couldn't guarantee that". Anyway, the fulfilled the order (triple play) and sure enough, I'm seeing the fastest, most consistent OOL speeds I have in the 5 years I've been a subscriber.

(When I checked OOL's site, though it said that service was not available at my address, it did say that service was available in my zip code, 12601).
