All I want my Tivo to be is a glorified VCR like it already is.
I am perfectly happy using a computer to access web content. |

Bu Bu Bu But you'd miss out on all the extra advertising and special offers that will come out of these partnerships.;):D -- "Sir SIR! We don't use DHCP servers. We only use IBM & Microsoft servers." That would be a plus to some people BUT with all the ISP's complaining about bandwidth hogs as it is, and many of the cable companies pushing their own DVR service, I can see a fight brewing over this. |

| Oh I don't doubt it. Best outcome is that those ISPs wake up and quit pretending to provide 'unlimited' service and instead use this as a tool to sell higher bandwidth (read:$$$) connections. In an uncharacteristic display of customer-centric behavior, my provider (SBC) is not playing that game and doesn't much care how much bandwidth you hog. They even allow servers on 'residential' connections.
It's going to take TiVo or something similar to get true VoD--independent of some cable company's marketing department--off the ground. It'll be interesting to watch who starts shooting at it first once it's airborne. |
