With the content (or lack thereof) on their site it's hard to tell how the hell the service works - what goes on, what areas they'll be serving, and so on.

I am not impressed so far.

did you not read?

In addition to your standard 10 Mbps connectivity, you will be able to upgrade to:

* 25 Mbps connectivity - Just ask for 25 Megs
* 50 Mbps connectivity - Just ask for 50 Megs
* 75 Mbps connectivity - Just ask for 75 Megs
* 100 Mbps connectivity - Just ask for 100 Megs

Hmm 5 Mags on rr and 6 on SBC sure look slow now dont they?

Yes, I did read. Thanks for checking.

Considering that most of Houston is wired for RR, this will probably only go with apartment complexes and townhome communities. I've seen very few actual housing subdivisions that are serviced by a cable provider other than TimeWarner.

Still - not impressed. These guys probably won't even be a blip on SBC's and TW's radars...

Pretty skimpy on details for a service that is going to explode on the scene and offer service to 1.6 million. Lots of small site coverage for a few press releases. Sounds like they may have invested in lots of abandoned dark fiber. But I do not see any local buzz or builds or anything that will get this off the ground. Voom had a lot more buzz than this does. We shall see.

Isn't SBC which is changing to AT&T supposed to start deploying FTTH or FTTN? Does anyone know if that will happen here in Houston?

FTTN. Last mile will be ADSL2+ or VDSL.

There's no "when" yet for Houston.

SBC should take note on how fiber really works VZ got it right the 1st time .. how many times SBC will it take to get it right? I say 3 or 4 ?? any takers?

Um so how do we know they got it right? They have a long way to go before they can reclaim their investment. Fision is taking over a bunch of dark fiber from lots of failed attempts to do the fiber build to the house long ago. We might like what Vz is doing but they better sell lots of IPTV and other services to make the investors happy.

I don't see venerable old TW breaking their hump to get fiber to my house either. This all comes at a price, lets see how many customers are ready to pony up so that the investments can be paid off. Now that we are talking prices what is Fision going to be charging?

Yeah I would love a fiber run to my house, just let me know how much it is going to cost.

But in this perhaps verizon will buy the fibers (if they fail or sell out) and we will have fibers this might be a more positive step but im not sure how sbc will react

Fios has been out how long? They have not yet shown that they've made the right moves.

Try again a year or two from now...

You can read these articles here for more details.

They have had a beta going on in the cy-fair area since the oct-nov time frame (400 HOMES). They will be announcing initial deployment areas in December.

They are using phonoscope's fiber network »www.phonoscope.com

They will offer 1 Gbps total to each home (according to interviews). Total iptv solution.

They are sponsoring this months fiber to the house council meetings (dec 5-7). I am hoping for some service area announcements this week. »www.ftthcouncil.org/

Frankly, I don't care if these guys only end up being a blip on twc or sbc's radar if they can deliver fiber, iptv and kick ars internet speeds to my home (assuming they can stay in business, I am an ex-voomer so I know all about that).
