 | [BT] Bit Torrent download stops my Internet HELP!! Hi Suddenly I have started having this weird problem which never happened before. And I didn't update my PC or anything and it just started happening.
Whenever I start downloading something using Bit-Lord or Bit comet or any BT client it halts my Internet explorer and other activities related to Internet like IM. This usually happens after an hour of using the BT client. And I didnt even update anything on my PC. Sometimes the client will keep downloading for a while even though I can't open a single web page. Later on the client will slow down downloading an eventually stop. Even after I close the BT client I still can't browse using firefox or IE. The only solution that works is I have to restart my PC. All is fine till I start to download using BT. My router is a Netgear. All the firm wares have been updated. Network Drivers are new. And like I said this never happened before, it started happening suddenly. Someone please help me. What is wrong why BT stops me from surfing. |

| My first guess would be that your upload speed is to high, but judging from your other symptoms I doubt it.
Chances are it is some sort of registry issue or software conflict. Most likely you will not find the cause. It is probably time to reinstall your OS and start from scratch.
If not, uninstall your BT app(s). Reinstall SP2 and get the latest updates. Then reinstall BT and see what happens. -- Google is your Friend |

 | reply to tmjam2002 It would seem like some kind of memory leak. Slowly the bittorrent apps are filling your ram and not releasing it. You can get a memory cleaner/scrubber that will free up available ram automatically when it gets too low. If that doesn't work, then I would have no idea what the problem is. Do you have current stable versions of your bittorrent software? |

 | reply to tmjam2002 I had the same problem. I was certain it was my router after researching and reading zillions of tech forums. I replaced the old router w/ a more expensive one and had the same thing happen! UGH! Decided to save for a new cable modem. Why not? SOMETHING was wrong! In the meantime I went down to my cable company and asked them for a replacement cable modem since they charge it to my acct. It was 39.99. It's the most rinkydink thing I've ever seen! Plan was to use it for a few weeks, save and buy a good one, and return the rinkydink one to the cable company for a full refund. BT works! No more internet drop outs! Turns out my old cable modem was a surfboard 3100, not docsis 2 compliant AND only had 10 mbps not 100 mbps ethernet ability. Boy do I feel stupid. I think I'll hang on to this rinkydink ScientificAtlanta Webstar modem. I hope this helps you, too. Gonna try to post this a few places. Maybe save someone else all the trouble I had. |

 | reply to tmjam2002 Hi.
Like i said i don't find it to be a hardware issue. Since why does it start working when i restart my pc? I don't do anything with the modem or the router. And besides this was working perfectly fine. I have been on bitlord or bitcomet and all has been fine. This suddenly started happening about a last 2,3 months or so. And the same problem is happening to my room mates. Turn bitcomet on internet connection drops after like 20 to 30 min. Ok sometimes i don't have to restart my pc. I close my bittorrent client and after say around 15 to 20 min my firefox/iexplorer start working |

Re: [BT] Bit Torrent download stops my Internet HE It used to be Auto on bitcomet. According to another forum. I changed it the values. Max connections 150. Max connections per download 100. I even used the Microsoft TCP hack and changed it from 10 to 100. But I still don't get it i never had this problem before. I never changed anything on my pc except the auto updates that install from microsoft. I have always used bitcomet and it has been fine. My router firmware is up to date. Still this suddenly started hapening to all of my room mates and me. |

CopaMundialThe Artist Formerly Known AsPremium join:2005-12-23 Happy 2008 1 edit | First, make sure that your "Max Half Open" Connections is lower than the number you set for Windows with the TCPSys patch. I used that patch to bump it from 10 to 50, so I set my max half open in BitComet to 45. In your case I think you said you set it at 100, which seems higher than necessary to me, but if you leave it there make sure that your Max Half Open setting is lower than that.
That's a different number than the Max Connections per Torrent or Connections to keep per torrent... the "Half Open" connections refers specifically to NEW connections that are just being formed. So it can be a lower number than your "Max Connections Per Torrent" ... meaning BitComet can be forming 45 new connections, while holding 100 others.
I think what's happening in your case is that eventually BitComet is holding all of the Half-Open TCP connections, that means your browser or chat client is just SOL when it wants to start up.
You can check to see if this is the case by looking at your event viewer under the "system" tab... if you see TCP 4226 errors errors then that means you're maxing out your half open connections.
If you see those, then follow these steps:
1) Re-Run that TCPsys patch (some windows updates will make that value revert back to the original 10). When you re-run it I would advise setting it to a lower number (like 50). There's no way your PC ever needs 100 connections forming simultaneously... not even w/ P2P clients. (link for the patch if you don't have it anymore »www.lvllord.de/ )
2) Set that Max-Half Open connections in BitComet to a number lower than what you put the windows limit to with the TCPsys patch. |

 | reply to tmjam2002 I have the exact problem with bitcomet slowing down and using all of my bandwidth. Has anyone tried out the suggested solution yet? I'm leaning towards reformating my comp. but please post if the solution works. Thanks |

I have the exact problem with bitcomet slowing down and using all of my bandwidth. Has anyone tried out the suggested solution yet? I'm leaning towards reformating my comp. but please post if the solution works. Thanks That's a pretty standard complaint on the BitComet help forums ( »www.p2pforums.com/viewforum.php?f=40 ). You can search those boards if you're looking for some more solutions, but I'll summarize here for you.
There are basically 3 types of "slowdown" issues that BitComet (or other BT clients) can cause.
(1) Running out of TCP Connections, as described above.
(2) Hogging all of your uplink bandwidth (easily identified and corrected by limiting Global Max Upload Rate to 80% of your measured upstream TRANSFER RATE.. in KB/s, not kb/s)
(3) High volume of TCP connections and NAT traffic overwhelms your router... that's particularly an issue with older routers and with the Linksys WRT54G routers. This "looks" like slowness, but what it's really router drop-outs that cause you to drop and regain your network connection. Identify this one by temporarily eliminating your router and connecting directly to the modem. If you have a WRT54G then check here for additional info and a recommended fix. »utorrent.com/faq.php#Special_not···_routers -- Helpful forums like this don't just 'happen'. I think it's one of the reasons CopaMundial mentioned, or outdated router firmware or NIC drivers. -- nfx |

 | reply to tmjam2002 Okay I'm checking my event viewer at different times and I notice that I get the TCP 4226 error only before 10-11pm. Is there an explanation for this? |

camion join:2004-04-07 New York, NY | my connection goes down too only when i use bt, if I dl from usenet, the connection is solid. I tried different routers (3), different computers, laptop, switch, no switch and is the same result. It drops the connection after 15-30 minutes.
I hope verizon is not sniffing the ports and knocking out the bt users, but I think they are. There are no other explanation I can find.
they can do whatever they want, I'll vote with my wallet. |

Okay I'm checking my event viewer at different times and I notice that I get the TCP 4226 error only before 10-11pm. Is there an explanation for this? You're getting the 4226 warnings errors in your event log only during the periods when you're out of TCP connections. If your PC and BitTorrent are not set up correctly you'll get those... but they'll come and go, that error doesn't scroll by 24x7. Your guess is as good as mine regarding the time ranges when you get those... most likely due to coincidence or the timeframe when you start your BitTorrent.
Regardless of the timing, it's an abnormal (but easily corrected) condition. Just follow those steps listed in my initial post and you'll be rid of those 4226 errors. -- Helpful forums like this don't just 'happen'. | thx for the suggestion ... I went ahead and just reformated and everything seems to be back to normal. In addition to this problem, I also experience some problems with my new seagate 300gb. Just so you know, WinXP doesnt recognize drives over 137GB without the SP2 and when I formated my OS drive, it wouldn't recognize my seagate storage drive. I had to use some date recovery prog to transfer all of the 250gb of data. Arghh! |

 | I have been having the same problem using Azureus. I thought it may be a memory leak but I have 2gig of ram and it never goes above 50%. I tried the memory optomizer from tuneup utilities and it did not help. My computer slows way down and neither the CPU (3.4g) or the ram are over 50% utilized. It gets to the point that there is nothing being sent or received and none of the other computers can access the net. I have a D-Link 624m and also had a 624 that I had the same issue with. I turned on loggin and do not see any issues there. Swapping routers was the first thing I tried I also thought it may be a tweak that I might have done because I did not have the problem for a long time and then started having problems a couple of months ago. I rebuilt the computer a couple of weeks ago and even before I loaded anything besides XP SP2 I tried it and it shut down after a few hours. It connects great for a few hours an then slows to a stop. I have gone through the Azureus wiki and all my settings are the recomended settings for my connection speed. 1500/384 advertised but actual 1280/284 from tests I have done on here. I have the settings 80% of what I got testing actual connjection speed. I also tried running it on another computer and had the same issue. Once I reboot my pc and router all is fine again. Yesterday I set the upstream to 10 and the down to 30 and it still did it. I don't know what else to try. Max Files Opened set to 50 Max Connections Per Torrent 50 Max Number Connections Globally 100
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. -- Sandman3Some days it just isn't worth chewing through the leather straps...... |
