My line sucks... fix it NOW!

Inspirational title, eh?

So your DirecTV DSL connection can suck the primer coating off an old Dusendorf... what can you do to hopefully fix your line?

There are a few things you can do on your end before you throw the book, and just about everything in reach at DirecTV.

The first an foremost numbero uno thing to do is with any type of broadband connection is to Tweak your internet settings!
This helps your Low Speed Problems. Just click the applet and let it do it's thing. Read the results when it's done then use DrTCP to apply the changes, hit the tab key (if the apply button is shaded out) then reboot your machine.

Does your ping flat out seems like you use UPS Mule? Is packet loss killing you? Be sure you're registered and run a Line Quality / Packet Loss Test. If you don't, you'll just see a fancy trace route. Luckily, I host the Tools forum. I'm pretty good at analyzing those Line Quality tests if you get lost on the results part of the job and tell you why your ping is bad, where you're getting packet loss from, and who you can talk to get your routing fixed.

If you have constant disconnects, you're looking at a bad NIC (ethernet card) or a bad wiring. Have your Telephone Company run a physical line test on your line to look for any physical line problems.

There are a few off site tools you can use that might not effect your line, but are a must if you want your system to run smoothly. One, for all the Microsoft users is Microsoft Windows Update. This is a database of fixes for most of all the Microsoft products.
Another one is PC Pitstop which will help optimize your general system settings.

If you're still having problems, there are always a few DirecTV DSL techs that have been spotted running around the forum. Post a friendly message (include any or all trouble ticket numbers or Customer / Line ID #s) and someone from the inside might reply.

We're here to help. All you have to do is just ask!
