Re: [Rant] PayPal payment type

I use a debit card which is funded by my registered checking account. I usually (when I remember) use the debit card for exactly the same reasons. Even though it's a debit card, I still get a little extra protection.

They keep it that way for a reason. Credit cards can be charged back. Bank accounts typically cannot. By defaulting to checking accounts, they have more of a guarantee on funding.
That's exactly why I like to use CC payments. eBay and PayPal resolution is a PITA. A chargeback puts the burden to perform back on the seller very quickly.

Wow, I wasn't aware you could do that! I always thought the credit card was secondary, tapped only when the bank account didn't work.

I agree, it is a pain in the ass. I wish the default was the credit card on file. I have a work account that I use and accounting gets pissed when I forget to change the payment type. That's okay though, I do their yearly reviews.

I always use my credit card to pay using PayPal.... Except for the last time when I didn't correctly change the payment type from the default bank account

:(:(

I called PayPal. They can't reverse the transaction - fine.

I asked them to tell me how to change my default payment type from bank account to credit card - there is none.

Why not? Because that's what's printed in the user agreement.

Obviously, I'm not going to stop using PayPal, but creating a way to change the default payment type should not be a big issue.
