It sounds like you have malware on your computer that is trying to trick you into buying useless software and ripping you off. Windows currently does not have this kind of pop up dialog, and sure as hell wouldn't take you to spyfighter.com

I got a message popup on the top of my screen(i should mention that i use dialup cuz of my area). It gave me a link to a site that rated different spyware removers and spyfighter was rated best. I downloaded it and i did run the program but it didn't find the stuff and i can't delete it! I think the spyware put that link on my computer so it could trick me into downloading a better version. |

Yeah, fcukdat is right -- there were buttons in the "popup" so it's NOT Messenger spam.

Does this pop-up say "Messenger Service" at the top? These could be spam/adverts sent via the Messenger Service if you have it enabled.

If you already have it disabled then I'd have to agree with the previous post and suggest you have spyware onboard - run a spyware check with Spybot or Adaware or something similar.

Sounds definetely like a scam... never heard of Security Center doing anything like this. I'm willing to bet that you've got some spyware hidden on that system.
In which case, I'd suggest going through this FAQ: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/8428 and seeing if you can find anything. Even if you don't, at least you'll have some logs (such as the HijackThis log, created by this program: www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip ) which the users who are better at helping people remove crap can use to help you get rid of this.

|  I've tried everything i can think of to get rid of the annoying pop-up that says:
"Warning: Windows Firewall detected suspicious network activity on your computer. Malicious software codes try to steal your pricavy information, such as credit card numbers, electronic mail accounts, financial data or passwords. Do you want to learn how to protect your computer?"
Then there are 'yes' and 'no' buttons. If the yes button is pressed, it opens the default browser to »www.spyfighter.com/ which I'm pretty sure is a scam. It offers free sample software that will allegedly scan your computer for spyware and adware for viruses but asks you to pay before you are able to remove any of them.
What I'd like to know is, how do I get rid of this? I've updated windows security, and I have norton antivirus. Is this a ligitimate warning or just a scam? |
