Another thread today is giving kudos to the company from happy customers. I read a lot of good things about Vonage and yet the GBU does not reflect that. Perhaps it is a case of people disliking the "big guy" and rooting for the underdogs. |

The same is true for the other somewhat larger providers (i.e. CallVantage) and also Sunrocket, IMO, one of the fastest growing providers. They went from 86% and just a notch behind Voicepulse to 73% virtually overnight, right on the heels of the 9/10 outage which was a one-day outage. Voicepulse seems to have little outages here and there lasting 30 minutes to up to an hour, some were larger than that. But they are kind of considered "the little guy." Or, consider Viatalk, which may have lost customers (as seen and demonstrated here) but not a single ratings point in the GBU despite a massive outage only eclipsed by Broadvoice's meltdown in duration. Again, the "little guy" thing.
If those SR customers who actually have had good service for a while now came back here to update their ratings to reflect that, SR would already be in the 80s again, IMO. |

I think that may be happening and is why SunRocket is climbing again. The problem may be the users that downgraded their reviews when SunRocket had so many problems and moved on. They have no way of knowing how well SunRocket is now doing and are unlikely to revise their rating. |

For the purposes of the GBU ratings victim of their own different philosophy? If I had been with Viatalk and faced with the prospect of losing 50% of whatever is left of my $199 rate I think twice, three times and then a fourth time about staying put instead of losing a lot of money. Other providers have cancellation fees and such to tie the customer down and agree to live through problems (and then, surprise, see "better days." With SR: Cancel, owe no penalty, and get rewarded by keeping the free phones. |

1. BBR Gold The average review score for the current good-bad-ugly chart is over 80%, and the average score for the chart six months ago, was also over 80%. |

Vonage is at 80% now but is still silver. |

SR was at 86% before that one-day outage that dropped them all the way to 73%. They also had an average of over 80% on that day 6 months prior, which is why they were GOLD. Once SR hits 80% again they'll be upgraded to Gold because 6 months ago they were above 80%.
"So far away?" Maybe in subscribers, but the price for Vonage is high with all those TV ads (estimated at $400 per customer generated.) They need to keep 'em loyal and hanging around or it is for naught. Seriously, the GBU list shows for Vonage and Sunrocket: 1. WebSite - B+ and B+ 2. Ease of Install - A- and A 3. Call Quality B+ and B+ 4. Reliability B+ and B- 5. Tech Support C+ and C+ 6. Value for money A- and B+.
Far away? That is as of today, and it is a safe bet that barring any major meltdown SR will climb higher and make the comparison with Vonage more favorable for them as folks update their reviews to reflect current conditions, not 9/14/2005 circumstances. |

 | reply to cbrain That's impressive that they have managed to climb back up. There recent good service must be the cause of such a rise. |

I agree Georgepan. They have made a good comeback from the September debacle. But, the best gauge is to look at the threads here. Personally I think that is a better gauge than the GBU as there are pro-any providers that tend to try to skew the numbers.
I do applaud SR on their ability to rise back, and hopefully they can continue the smooth sailing they have enjoyed for a few months.
Again though, one of the things that does keep Vonage customers loyal is the reliabilty. |

I also think there are a lot of posts that would skew the outlook of a provider. For example, there are some people that don't take a hint that VoIP is not for them and repeatedly post negatively. On the flip side there are the "sunshine pumpers" that post positive "praise" threads to offset the negativity. Just my 2 cents... -- Hilbe »www.sunrocketforum.com | »www.nuvioforum.com |

 | reply to cbrain SR rating in GBU should be better than it was several months ago because the service has been more reliable since the meltdowns, err, upgrades.
SR certainly has its quirks, but at least phone calls usually go through. That's really what I care about.
My recent experience with Tier One tech support hasn't been very good and it seems that it a common theme. It would be good to see that improved. I know I hate wasting my time waiting for someone competent to appear. |
