ATM Instant Messaging Screen Names

If you use one or more instant messaging systems (apart from the BBR built-in private messaging), and would like to share your screen name(s) with your fellow ATMers, please send me a PM here at BBR. Let me know what screen names from which services you would like to publicize, in your order of preference.

Disclaimer: It is possible for spam-harvesting robots to obtain screen names and use them to spam associated email addresses. For example, if you post a AIM screen name such as JoeUser, a spammer may attempt to send mail to JoeUser@aol.com or JoeUser@netscape.com. Obviously, posting screen names for services that are based on email addresses can also leave you vulnerable, e.g. Joe.User@gmail.com or juser@hotmail.com.

The solution to this problem is simple; don't post screen names that could be associated with an email address that you frequently use. You can almost always create a throwaway address for a given service, and then only use it to log in to the IM account. Some services might require you to check your email periodically in order to keep your account active, but for the most part you need not worry about what type of mail is hitting that account.

Just a little intelligent planning can save you from worlds of trouble.
