Shutdown Message?

I want all my users to shutdown their systems before 5pm before they go home.

How can I create a shutdown message window pop-up in Windows 2000/98/XP???

Thanks

Net Send.

May not work if users have personal firewalls enabled or the Messenger service disabled.

Or do it yourself:

Im speaking in terms of an automatically making the message appear at a certain time...Is it possible to do that?

You can schedule the Net Send with the normal Windows scheduler.

If you want something fancy, MS SMS and Novell and others offer admin interfaces and schedulers that do this sort of thing.

Not sure why you want to send a message and have them remember to do it. But anyway, you can just write a batch file and schedule it to run with the simple Windows scheduler.

Here's a sample:

@Echo off
@net send * Shut down your computer now or it will explode!
@exit

Copy it, paste it in Notepad and save it as whatever.bat. Then schedule Windows to run it at whatever time you want.

OR/AND you can just set your computers to hibernate if they are inactive for an hour.

I am in my separate hub...Will this matter to all other pCs throughtout the network?

if it's a HUB, then it would go right thru..
if it's a router, then it might be blocked..

what exactly is your job/position there?

If you're worried, then I assume you weren't authorized to touch them in the first place. I suggest that you talk to your system admin and perhaps apologize if necessary.

Ok each room and offices have their own network cable connectors in the computer room...In my room, where I sent the message task from, we have our own wire thats connected to a node or a CAT 5e Hub mounted in the wall in the computer room...Will this matter?
Administration for example, has there own network cable attached to the RJ45 port in the master hub of our computer room...

Which is why you should stop playing with it. If you don't know how those computers are networked together, and what subnets you have, and whether they go through routers or hubs, obviously you're not responsible for them. Talk to your system admin before you get yourself fired.
