New firmware on DVR; 30 second skip disabled?

Looks like the new firmware that came through last night (to 12.22) disabled my programmed 30 second skip feature on the remote control. I tried to re-program the remote to no avail. Did this happen to anyone else? Any workarounds?

Same thing here, I literally just logged into to see if there were any other reports of it.

Pain in the butt if you ask me.....

Re: New firmware on DVR; 30 second skip disabled?

I asked the local office what the "update" did earlier and they professed not to know anything about any updates. Go figure.

Let us hope this at least fixed some of the many reported issues many of us have had the past few months. It would be nice for the dual tuner to actually work properly again. I think this update may have gone through this afternoon for me. I'll know later this morning if the new firmware resolved the problems I had been seeing. I'm not sure I was aware of how to use the 30 second skip. I just fast forward through any commercials. Unless one looks new and interesting. Of course it has to catch my eye why zooming past. Thanks for reporting this update. Hopefully it will smooth things out.

Iggy, and some time ago you made fun of my decision to build a MythTV system. Nobody can take features away from me.

As for disabling the 30 second skip, that's obviously done to maintain their marketing efficacy. I don't think they really care about how well the unit works as long as they get their money.

Damn, I never knew there was a 30 second skip. I have been lucky I guess, but my 6412 has worked as expected. adz133, I don't use Mythtv, but Have a nice dual tuner box running BeyondTV and love it. I record all my SD stuff on it and HD on the 6412. I prefer a pc DVR, too bad there is no easy way to do HD yet. If we could just get some PC tuners with cable card support.

No one made fun of anyone. And honestly even an open source option could have it's share of issues. And your choice and the other options out there have had there problems from time to time. Motorola here lately seems to be on a bad roll. Kind of similar to Linksys at the moment. Your average user isn't going to want to go through the headache and hassles of setting up an alternative. Yes some hardcore geeks will find this fun or a challenge worth undertaking. But most people want it all in one box and working. Although Microsoft's option is becoming more popular. If the software that runs your hardware gets goofed. It doesn't matter what option you have chosen. Motorola wasn't turning off options - accept maybe the 30 second skip with this latest version - for all we know they just screwed up again. They just had their head in their backside when they released the previous firmware. How they couldn't have noticed stuff not recording properly or the dual tuner not functioning as it should when testing the firmware is beyond me.

Mine too, It really pissed me off.

I had to have Insight come yesterday and exchange my box and remote. The remote would not rewind and the number 3 didn't work even with new box. This is my third box in maybe 6 months.

The techs they send are always very nice and it's not their fault so I don't blame them.

But, the 30 second skip really ticks me off. I really liked that feature. Maybe someone will figure out a new hidden code, but I doubt it.

Actually the problems are minimal, and only a few people have had problems with the DVR (like 1%). In all actuality, the thing does work, and have never had problems with ours.

Marty, I also live in Fishers and I called Insight last night and reported the 30 Skip missing on both my DVRs. He went to the Motorola site and set up his remote for the 30 second skip and tried it on the DVR he had there and found the same thing. He told me he was going to report the issue to his supervisor and someone should be giving me a call in a couple of days. I'll let everyone know if I hear anything.

For Iggy... I'm just curious what you mean by the dual tuner not working properly or recording. As far as I know I haven't had any issues at all with the dual tuner. What doesn't/didn't? work right?

Yes, I am interested too. I asked him the same thing in another thread and he did not answer.

That is because he does not know what the problem is. All I hear is ranting because the product won't live up to TiVo's hype. Guess what, it is not a TiVo, and guess what, it is Insight's equipment, not ours. They can pretty much do what they want, and if they want to cripple it to keep people from using the 30sec skip, be it.

Last time I checked, you can hit the FFWD, or Rewind, and you have FF1-FF4, and RE1-4 which suffices for me.

I just got the new firmware pushed to me last night (Eastern Jefferson county), and it killed the 30-second skip for me as well.

Anybody found a workaround yet?

The firmware is still at 12.22--what you received was a software update taking you to 73.44 (was 71.44).

I lost my 30 second skip button today. I did notice that the box now has a screensaver when it's paused for a couple of minutes.
