| Can't Telnet To A SpeedStream 5200 E240
Last Modem: SS 5200 E242 Replacement: SS 5200 E240
Note: Not sure why Sympatico shiped out a older rev. of the 5200 series.
Modem Setup: Ethernet Connection
Problem: I've gone through the instructions on the Sympatico FAQ section on howto Telnet to this Modem, but all attempts fails.
No matter what I try, I can't seem too get any response from the modem via Telnet at all.
Error: telnet 192.168.2.1 Connecting To 192.168.2.1...Could not open connection to the host, on port 23: Connect failed
Modem IP Confirmed As: 192.168.2.1 Config Part#: 003-f093-G0H Firmware Part#: 004-E240-A4R
(Once again this is a replacement modem just recived today, and has not been messed with (firmware wise at all)
If anyone could give a helping hand or advice that be great thanks. |

Turned it off and bam all fixed. |

| First you must unlock your SS5200 Modem, (Taking into count you havn't already)
»Unlocking your Speedstream 5200 E242
After its unlocked, the page design should change and be orange type of bankground then goto the following and turn off built in firewall this way..
»192.168.2.1/fwcfg.htm
(Turning off firewall will stop it from blocking traffic, but will not forrward needed ports for servers and P2P/etc.)

| I've got too a replacement of my E242 (for a E240). After unlocking my E242, I did a few port-forward and then my modem died! No way to access it. When I call Bell tech they said that this modem was not working to be a router.
Can I do port forward with E240? --- but I will not try it anyway as I don't want to broke another modem ( |

| Yes you can, but no matter what i did, the more traffic i had on SS5200 E240 it just froze for no reason and was a bitch to get it back...
All i can say is get them to replace it at all cost, or go buy a compatible G.DMT Variable Virtual Circuit Modem.

@sympatico.ca | I know this must sound lame, but how do you unlock the 5200 e240. Trying to setup a game server has been frustrating. Thanks |
