[ DrTCP] Dr. TCP and Win XP Pro second edition.

Hello!

Before we get to the other items in your list I need to get DrTCP working on WinXP Pro Second Edition.

As of present it runs but the returned results from the tweak test suggest no changes were made by DrTCP.

I have run DrTCP from the admin account and when re-run it suggest the changes were made since the changed values come up in the DrTCP window when re-run.

Any ideas on how to get this to take on this OS?

Some folks with XP SP2 have an issue with The Doctor. We can work around it using other tools.

Go ahead and post the answers to the questions and we can go from there.

1. (set firewall and linksys router to become pingable your site reports its not.)
»/tweakr/···a=normal

2. Atlanta 2199 kbps up and 356 kbps down
Wash. D.C. 1541 kbps up and 354 kbps down

3. »/quality/nil/1933703

4. Cable, Road Runner, Motorola cable modem - model Surfboard SB5100

5. Not Applicable cable is in use

6. Not Applicable cable is in use

7. Windows XP Pro Service patch 2

8. 5000 kbps / 384 kbps

9. PC is on a linksys router BEFW11S4 version 4 which is behind a vonage phone router Motorola model VT1005 V (problem with ping is suspected to be here. I am checking into how to fix this.) which is behind the cable modem in item 4 above. No ISC or VPN is active or enabled at this time.

10. The router info is in 9 above and is NOT used for sharing at this time only for security reasons. On ocassion I enable wireless which is off now.

11. Not Applicable Cable is in use.

Thank you for looking at this I am in the process of trying to see what the Vonage Modem / router configurations are and if I can reset them to receive a ping. Of course if you know how it's done then by all means feel free to speak up. LOL

Here is the new info after getting the VOIP box out of the way.

1. »/tweakr/···a=normal

2. Atlanta 2978 kbps up and 356 kbps down
Wash. D.C. 2613 kbps up and 358 kbps down

3. »/quality/nil/1933943

4. Cable, Road Runner, Motorola cable modem - model Surfboard SB5100

5. Not Applicable cable is in use

6. Not Applicable cable is in use

7. Windows XP Pro Service patch 2

8. 5000 kbps / 384 kbps

9. PC is on a linksys router BEFW11S4 version 4.
No ICS or VPN is active or enabled at this time however the VOIP box is now connected via a port on the Linksys router is is in idle with no conversation taking place.

10. The router info is in 9 above and is used for the VOIP box and my single wired computer. On occasion I enable wireless which is off now.

11. Not Applicable Cable is in use.

Now with all this collected again I see that my speeds are significantly slower than the expected 5000/384. Where do we go from here?

From your speeds it seems you're on 3000/384 plan still otherwise you'd be getting close to your advertised speed. You system is tweaked already not really a tweaking problem IMO.

I spoke directly with a tech and this system is on 5000/384 and is not pulling all it can get out of the mix.

My guess is the RWIN needs to be adjusted.
What value would you suggest for RWIN?

Re: [ DrTCP] Dr. TCP and Win XP Pro second edition

• The Tweaks are fine as is. There is no need to raise the RWIN.

• Are you testing your speed wireless or wired?

• Pull the router. Connect the PC directly to the MODEM. Reboot the MODEM and then the PC. Retest your speeds.

Re: [ DrTCP] Dr. TCP and Win XP Pro second edition

The entire configuration is wired. I only use wireless on occasion and when I do I manually turn it on in the linksys router.

I reduced the RWIN and achieved speeds in excess of 4700kbps without the router and with the router and VOIP gateway connected they are around 3500kbps.

Does this sound right? A reduction in RWIN would increase speeds?

Now my next task is to implement the linksys router in DMZ mode through the VOIP gateway so I can insure QOS to the VOIP equipment.

It's entirely possible for a lower RWIN to increase speeds. Overall throughput is based on RWIN and Latency. It's entirely posible that you're trying to recieve packets that are too large for your connection to handle. Try this as an experiment, Lower RWIN to 37960 and see if it makes any difference in your speed.. Better or worse.

• I don't think that the RWIN is a factor here.

• My guess is that the VOIP box that is causing the slowdown.

• Test again with the RWIN at 64240 without the VOIP and the router INPLACE.
