Re: [trouble] Intermittent connection drop

I had the same problem with my Internet light going Red. I would call up Verizon telling them my problem and all they do was open up a ticket to send out a guy to the CO to check out my card and then close the ticket. I decided to get a Linksys router and put the Westell 327w in bridge mode. Now, with the router doing the PPP log-in my connection hasn't dropped in almost 2 weeks.

Happens to me every night, you can almost set your watch by it. Come around 5:30pm and modem all of a sudden loses sync. Dsl light flashes and then turns solid orange. I've given up trying to figure it out, I just unplug the modem for a few hours, plug it back in and all is usually fine. I've tried resetting everything several times, but the next day, same thing happens, I don't know whats going on, but it sure is a pain in the butt.

Anyone else having this kind of problem? My Verizon DSL looses its connection at night about every 20 min. Sometimes it connects longer, sometimes its shorter.

It has been like this ever since the 'Service Ready' date. We have changed out the modem, now on my 2nd Westel 327w Gateway. Verizon came out and put in what they call a 'home run'. And nothing seems to help. I have logged HOURS with tech supports various tiers from the front line phone guys to the MCO. Nothing seems to help. I don't even know how to begin to diagnose this.

This week, they lowered the speed from the 3mip to 1.54. It's no better.

When the connection drops, the internet light on the modem shows red, then goes out. Sometimes it will reconnect on its own, but most of the time I have to go into the westel router's home page and tell it to connect the PPP session.

Verizon tests the line, says the conditioning is near perfect, but it still drops. Any help appreciated!

Verizon says the log files don't mean anything. Here are some samples of the common entries:

MON DEC 19 00:46:32 2005
Disconnecting session(0): Auto Registration due to PADT received

MON DEC 19 00:46:32 2005
PPP CONNECTION ERROR on VPI 0 VCI 35 : Could not establish Link

SUN DEC 18 22:13:36 2005
PPP DISCONNECTED on VPI 0 VCI 35 : PPP link layer failure

SUN DEC 18 00:34:23 2005
PPP DISCONNECTED on VPI 0 VCI 35 : PPP commanded down

Router says stats are:
Transceiver Revision: 1.0.9.0
Vendor ID Code: 4
Line Mode: G.DMT Mode
Data Path: Fast
Transceiver Information Down Stream Path Up Stream Path
DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 1792 448
Margin (dB) 14.5 21.0
Line Attenuation (dB) 43.0 20.5
Transmit Power (dBm) 8.8 8.7
