they are 2 totally seperate companies.

| reply to PrymeMover Thanks prymemover I am looking at this now. just back to work from long christmas break last week. I got my netopia router/modem this morning an have it working with one computer plugged into it for testing. now to configure it for the static ip setup. Funny that last week with old speedstream 5260 modem i was gedtting over 4 megs down but this morning with nuthing changed on my side i was gettng less then 2 megs down. techs say they saw 5 megs down on there end. After getting the new router an hooking it up the speed went up. again thanks for the info i will check it out an see what happens.

You'll probably find that once the router is configured, you can assign statics just like you always could. That's how I did my 3346N with 5 stickies--my machines have direct WAN IP assignment. |

| reply to hugmnster Thanks. I have the Netopia 3346N ordered to come in next week. Is there a faq for sbc dsl hookup with this router besides the bellsouth one here on dslreports. I' m not a bellsouth custorm but sbc, I know they are both partt of same company. Thanks for info. I just wished I had not lost my true static account / ip's . I did not have to worry with dhcp / username/password it was much easier.

| reply to hugmnster Your netgear router will work with one of the new sticky PPPoE static IPs, the WAN or gateway IP. The other IPs would be inaccessible with that router. See: »Ameritech - SBC FAQ »Any Funhouse/Ameritech info on the 5 Static IP packages? |

Don't feel bad statics are statics period. A nice ZyXel zywall (10, 5 etc) or the 'inexpensive' ciscos (831 or SOHO) among other routers will do the job fine. |

| I recently lost our grandfather status with our static ip due to accounts payible department error. We had to start out as new dsl service. I used to assign our ip address manually. I have the netgear fvs328 router. Is this router compatible with the SBC DSL Expert Plus-S Package (5 static ips), if so how do I go about getting static ip's on couple linux /windows machines. If not then what do you suggest that I invest in to make this work. I'm not happy camper that I lost our old account an old static ip package. |
