[Connectivity] Comcast (West Chester, PA) only loads some pages

Yesterday both my wired PC and wireless laptop began only loading some pages. Some loaded VERY slowly, but most others just failed to load right away (it would go to a Page Not Found). Calling Comcrap, they blamed it on my Netgear WGR614 version 4 router, since when I bypassed it, things seemed to really improve. Today, I went and bought a new one (version 6) and set it all up. Both the wired PC and the wireless laptop were blazing along PERFECTLY...for a couple of hours. Now it's back to the SAME JUNK. I'm so frustrated with this now. How can it be TWO routers with problems. But it makes no sense why is clears up if I bypass them. Any why did it work so well for a few hours!?

(I'm seeing Fios in the near future for me)

Re: [Connectivity] Comcast (West Chester, PA) only loads some pa

I had a similar issue 2 times in the last week. I'm also in West Chester. Not really what I'd call an outage, but definitely slowed down browsing and some sites would not load at all.
I never bypassed my router, but I did reboot it and that cleared up the problem.

I also doubt that it was your router. I'd recommend taking that new router back... get yourself a Christmas Present instead.

Thanks for that info. Interesting. The comcast fool came out Friday and didn't do a darn thing to either say what the issue was, or work on my slow (3000kbps instead of the claimed 6000) connection. So, I called for Fios and it's on its way!
Anyway, I think I may keep this new version 6 Netgear router...for some reason it gives a WAY better wireless signal.

If the problem clears up without the router, how can you concieve it isn't the router causing the problem? Here's a longshot, did you call tech support for the router??? Might come in handy to at least try. Why is the Comcast tech a fool? You want him to do your job and troubleshoot a router?

I called the router tech support. They were nice enough to just send me a replacement. This did not help at all. I also started to figure out that it's more of a modem reset that "cures" the problem, when I was disconnecting the router to bypass it. It was more luck/resetting than the router issue.

And yes, I fully believe the comcast guy was a fool when he shows up and can do absolutely nothing to diagnose any problems except repeatedly type "ping www.comcast.net" into the command prompt. He had no idea what I was talking about when I asked him about running trace routes, and getting more info with ipconfig /all. It's pretty sad that I know more than their "tech" from just casually messing with it.
Oh, he was also confused that the ip was showing up as 168.xx... rather than the 72.xx.. I had to point at the bright white router sitting right next to the monitor, with all the lights flashing.

Thats becasue they don't troubleshoot routers. You should have removed it and hooked the comp straight to the mdm. Kinda rude not to even have it ready for the tech. Router is your problem.

Nope, I offered, and he said it wouldn't matter if we disconnected it. Kinda rude for Comcrap to hire "techs" that can only type "ping" and surf around a bit to only say it seems fine, then leave even after I show them the speed test is coming in at less than half of what I'm paying for. Oh and I get the same dismal speed direct connecting to the modem.
Go FiOS! Two weeks!

EZ your right - every comcast guy whose ever come out to my house, and unfortunately I've had alot, has been a FOOL! Do you work for comcast?
They don't know anything about computers or internet connections, all they know how to do is plug in a cable modem. In fact, the one time I needed a new cable modem, the FOOL didn't even bring one!
It doesn't sound like his problem has anything to do with the router, and if he hooked up the cable modem directly (which I'm sure he did) the problem would be the same.
You know what else would be nice, if the Comcrap FOOLS would actually come when they say they are. I wait around all day and they don't show up in the time frame they say. I even had them claim they showed up - and I work from home and never left the house -- they never called and never showed up, but tried to claim they did.
uhhhhh... I can't wait till they get FIOS here in MD.

Re: [Connectivity] Comcast (West Chester, PA) only

As an online technical support agent I have only one reply to that ... don't you know it's NEVER the router?? LOL. The ISP is gonna get blamed for slow browsing whether it's the router, whether there are TWO routers AND a hub in their home network, whether they are running a server and using beau coup b/w (on residential service!!), or whether they have a zombie computer so loaded with spyware and/or trojans it takes five minutes to load a page (if ever), and God help us if their own security is configured to block not only browsing but pinging and tracerouting as well ... but hey, it's easier to call locally and blast ye good ole' ISP because an installation tech can't troubleshoot rf issues and "fix their speed" on the spot than it is to call India for router or Microsoft support. Right? Ah well, you get the gist...
