Fiber in Houston

Hi, I'm in houston and there is a group/company making noise about bringing fiber to us using a fiber network that has been laid out over the past 20 yrs or so. I don't know anything about fiber optics or deploying it, so I thought I would ask here. Here is a link to their latest infomercial. »www.4fiber.tv/OENVideo.htm
My main question is, should we get our hopes up, or is this "Pie in the Sky?" Any input would be appreciated.

Not likely at all. The "investment" op is a red flag too. Any lunkhead knows that SBC and Verizon have effectively trumped any need for private FTTH (where it's profitable). At best this is a cocaine-high dream (of course I could be wrong )

Well, honestly, that's my feeling to.(I'm a bit of a skeptic) but it would be nice to have this kind of an option to the so-called services we have here in houston now.

Although you may not be impressed with SBC/ATT services in houston keep in mind the resources they have and that are established. If this start- up did get off the ground they may offer competitive services, but bare in mind you normally get what you pay for. In order to compete with SBC and or Verizon they'll need cut corners somewhere in order to offer great pricing. So do the math.

The TV & phone really don't interest me as much as the 10/10 up to 100/100 internet connections do. I had to drop RoadRunner because the service got so bad in my area. The only option I found to get stable connection & static IP was Speakeasy, and they are not cheap(@115/mo for the 6/768 dryline plan) and so far, it has been a VERY reliable service (no complaints at all from me). But speeds are only 5 down/650 up @6650ft from CO. I don't mind paying for what I get as long as I get what I pay for. If these guys could just deliver on the internet speed plans, I'd be a happy camper for sure .....But again there's that word again...."IF" lol

Anyway, I'll keep an eye on it and let you all know what developes. Thanks for the responses!
