The playstation 2 and gamecube do not allow you to change their MAC addresses, so to use those you will need to buy a router and use your PCs cloned mac address set in the router settings. You probably can find a router for around 20 bucks online. Try pricewatch.com or newegg.com

But if your on a budget you can only save money with the XBOX because it can clone a mac address internally.

Wait, can't you clone the PS2 address to your computer?

If you do this, is there ever any problem w/ going online w/ each and someone seeing that they have different IP addresses or anything, or do they only look at the MAC?

when u clone the xbox's mac to match the pc, you can't have them both online at the same time. Therefor you will have only 1 ip and no one will know the difference.

Ok, I'm not quite sure I understand. If I were to clone my PS2 MAC to my PC (and then re-register on PC and be able to get on w/ PC and PS2, though not at the same time obviously), how would that alter the IPs? Wouldn't each one still have its old IP but just a new MAC? Apologies if I'm missing something really basic here, I'm fairly new to this stuff but I would really appreciate it as I would love to just be able to plug the PS2 right in to the network since it would give me back the precious bandwidth I lose filtering my connection through my laptop to my PS2.

Can anyone tell me if I can just clone my PS2 MAC on my computer, go through the browser registration process and then have no problems using both my computer and PS2 on the network (at different times)?

That would do it, but if you have an xbox also, you should clone the PC's mac to the xbox and ps2 (if u can). In this way all three devices will have the same ip when plugged in. The registering thing or whatever you have will think all 3 are the exact same machine.

afaik you can't clone anything to PS2. The other thing I was worried about was it getting noticed. I figure they have systems in place to detect simple MAC spoofing like that but I'm a total n00b so I really have no idea. What do you think?

No, they shouldn't be able to tell. The xbox and pc will only broadcast what you let them. Now if u had 1000's different macs in 1 day due to spoofing macs for one reason or another, then they could tell.

Thanks much for the help. Now when you say "what you let them" what does that mean? Say I used a program like Mac Makeup. Now what I would like to do is assign a "new address" to my controller (and not my PCI itself, I assume) that matches my PS2 address, so I can then register the computer online and use both (at separate times). Now by default it has "Filter Virtual Interfaces" and "Auto NIC OFF/ON" checked. Is there anything else I should not "let them" see? Like, for example, should I manually set my PS2's IP, netmask and DNS settings to match my computer's? Thanks much, as you can tell I'm pretty noobish at this beyond knowing that this is one possible option.

Just clone the mac, thats all that really matters. I doubt they're going to check anything or even care for that matter, they should have more imoprtant things to do than making sure ur not playing ps2 games online.

As far as that program goes, I'm not at all familiar with it.
