Unable to resolve ANY of BBRs domain names

Hi gang,

I am unable to resolve ANY of BBR's domain names from my work PC through the DNS servers I am configured to use. This has been the case for several days now. I can resolve other names that are hosted in the same data center, and can get to the site by IP. However, when browsing by IP it goes very slowly and I am missing a lot of images and the CSS because of the absolute url references to them. I am currently posting by using a SSH tunnel to my house and running through my SQUID proxy.

If I change my DNS servers in the nslookup prompt I can resolve the names. However, I do not have rights on this machine to change my actual TCP/IP configuration nor am I able to edit the hosts file.

If anyone who has access to the BBR DNS servers knows of anything going on that would stop some Army (NIPR) DNS servers from resolving the BBR domain names, I'd be thrilled. I can PM the IP's of the DNS servers I am using if need be.

I may try contacting my IT folks, but they are not knowledgeable at all, and are running on a skeleton crew for the holidays.

Thanks,
Jim

The DNS configuration hasn't changed in a while so I doubt it's anything on our end.

Did you try dslr.net?

Thanks all. No, I cannot resolve any of them.

Yeah nil See Profile, I didn't figure you guys had changed anything. But I figured a shot in the dark here was better than trying to get our people to look at it and fix it.

Thanks!

Hmmm...did some more digging. I didn't realize that BBR was using easydns.com--I thought you had your own DNS servers sitting at the NAC.NET data center.

I now see that I am resolving the domain easydns.com to the IP 127.0.0.1

Looks like I have to call IT after all.

Heh heh...funny.

I think it's actually that my IT department just doesn't want to make anything easy for us!

For me, the latest Protowall blocklist that I downloaded, blocked the entire IP range that DSLR sits in. Had to edit an IP out of the range.

Are you serious? Why would they do that?

Dunno.
Trying to remember IP here, having a senior moment...
Think the block blocked was Net Access, can't remember exactly what I edited...may be at the screenshot.
All I am sure of is that I couldn't get here after I updated Protowall's list with Blocklist Manager.
Saw the IP for here, edited that out of the range, and viola! I could get here.

Yes, we're in that range. That's an interesting block list.. National Women's Law Center?

Trying to upload the entire list I was given (I open it with notepad)
Only jumped in thread because of original poster's question. Thinking it may be something similar, that the IT department used a list like I got and effectively blocked here.

Thanks for the thought Rxdoxx See Profile. I think this is different, though. I can get to the site by IP, but not by domain name. That combined with the fact that I am resolving easydns.com (BBR's DNS provider) to the IP 127.0.0.1 makes me think that isn't what happened here. Also, there are two filters/proxies that I go through from work and they give different indications than the error I am seeing when they block me from a site.

I e-mailed my IT yesterday and the problem still exists this morning, with not even a single reply from them yet.

I sent the e-mail to my IT people on 29 December and haven't even gotten a reply. DSLR wouldn't be open to a change of DNS providers, would they...?

I'm just glad for the FreeBSD box at my house that I can use to bypass their crap with.

If you try to access from some other comp does it work ?

On your workstation did you try to flush the dns cache with ipconfig /flushdns

It's everything on our network. Plus, on this PC, I can switch over to my proxy via SSH tunneling and it immediately works.

I also e-mail easydns.com and they were very interested in the issue. So perhaps it will get worked from that end as well.
