They are not from a hidden address or anything like that either. Ive reported them as spam like 20x and I still get them every day. Comcast spam blockers are pathetic. Google mail blocks these things after one report as spam, comcast can't do it after 20. |

My Yahoo *and* Hotmail accounts will screen an email after 1 (one) report. Jason at the Comcast.net forums stated that an email must be Reported by several users before it will get screened... WTF?  -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |

You can selectively choose what is spam, and stop it from getting to your inbox. It also learns over time so most of the spam is automatically blocked. Its a nice little piece of software. I would recommend it. |

 sigPremium join:2001-05-05 | reply to rag133 I have an AT&T dial up account which I use for email and overall BrightMail does a pretty good job sending spam to the junk mail folder. It's not perfect but it catches the vast majority of the spam.
With Comcast however, it's the exact opposite. Most of the spam lands in my inbox instead of the screened mail folder. And yet Comcast also uses BrightMail.
Has to be something in the implementation for such a radical difference between ISP's both using BrightMail. Strange. |

Comcast e-mail is pure and simply crap. It is horrid.
I have used Yahoo, hotmail, netscape, msn, lycos,gmail, etc. None are as bad at blocking spam as the Comcast spam filter is. |

SPAM cleaning Comcast email thru Google Gmail To cut down on the SPAM, one way I found was to take my Comcast email accounts and forward them to my Google gmail account. I still have Comcast's Brightmail filters active, but when the msgs go to Gmail, there are still plenty of msgs going to the Gmail SPAM folder. This has cut down the SPAM to 1 or 2 per day, instead of dozens.
P.S. Google Gmail can be accessed both thru the WEB interface and thru POP MAIL access using ENCRYPTED ports(465 out and 995 in). They even include a link to a little program that will configure the std email pgms for proper settings.
P.P.S. The SPAM folder keeps the spam for 30 days just in case you didn't see something you were expecting and thought something legit was treated as spam by mistake.
P.P.S. And if SPAM does still get into the INBOX folder, you can mark it as SPAM for GOOGLE attention. And they are pretty good at catching that in the future then. -- -- Join Red Room Forum My Web Page |

 | reply to rag133 I don't think it is the spam filters, It might be you need to change your account filter settings. I have mine set to only allow names and accounts from my address book; guess what? I get 1-2 spam sent to my suspect box in a month. So, check your settings, it might be worth it. |

| reply to rag133 comcast is also the second largest ISP in the country so many spams go to their domains. i always tell people to use gmail for their everyday mail and not their ISP mail. besides, if comcast mail had a bunch of false positives, people would be right on the forums crying about it. there are many other solutions you can use and you arent stuck with comcast mail. i actually route all my mail through my VPS server which gives me spam assassin and then i use the thunderbird junk mail filter on top of that. its easy and it works better then any other solutions. |

| reply to uiopuiop I get 20 to 30 a day of these stupid e-mails. Comcast does not seem to filter anything. I use Thunderbird as my mail client and it was getting rid of almost all this junk by sending them to a Junk folder. Then I made the mistake of installing Norton Internet Security with Spam Blocking. Norton started marking almost every e-mail as [Norton AntiSpam] but allowing all the messages to go into my inbox. It even marked messages that I sent to myself. Norton also interfered with the spam blocking in Thunderbird and now I am being inundated with Spam even after uninstalling Norton Internet Security. The only thing I can think of trying is to uninstall Thunderbird, clean the registry and reinstall Thunderbird. |

OTOH, my sister, a Comcast customer, thinks that Brightmail is doing a great job of filtering her Comcast email.
