If it gets any higher (with tax my 120 package already comes to about $48 a month right now so expect it to go to about $53) I will either switch to DirectTV or simply pay only $15 more for Charter cable which actually has more programming options at decent rates including HDTV with DVR at a reasonable price which is cheaper than what my DISH 120 package with non-HD DVR offers. |

I'm sure DTV will as well... someone has to announce it first.. last year it was DTV.
Its never been more than $1-2... where as cable here sometimes went up $5 or more and sometime more than once a year, Plus 3 changes in ownership in 10 years (TCI, ATT, now Comcast) which led to additional increases shortly after the changeovers as well.
Extended Basic here is about $47 last I checked and that is only 70 all analog channels... vs DISH's 120+ for $8/month less. (And yes several of those 70 are shopping garbage, etc.)

Unless something has changed recently, subscribing by the year locks in that given rate for that year. That was the avantage of subscribing by the year in addition to getting the 1 month free.

No, your rate won't increase until your contract or term expires. I think if you read your agreement carefully though, it might in fact give Dish the right to increase your rate mid-term. They don't normally though. |

Does this rate increase affect those customers with commitments??? It seems they would have to hold their pricing for those customers or else they have a free ticket out. |

Yes. It's been an annual occurrence for the last several years. You can see the annual increases here. And generally speaking, the increases have been less then cable when looked at overall. It's still a little hypocritical when Dish calls the cablecos pigs for raising rates, only to raise their rates 11% for their AT60 package.

Admittedly, they've got a ways to go before they catch up with cable prices in most areas, but this is becoming an annual thing with Dish, isn't it ?? |

Effective 2/1/06, Dish will be raising rates (again). Below are the new rates (with the amount of increase/percentage):
AT60: $29.99 ($3/11.11%) (AT60+ is still $5 extra)
AT120: $39.99 ($2/5.26%)
AT180: $49.99 ($2/4.16%)
Locals are not included in above price...add $5 in most cases.
AT60 prices are guaranteed through January of 2008.
