| Re: Only a matter of time I agree and think they should keep the Verizon name as it now has national brand recognition. But my choice for a new name would be:
Mseeskyzon - kind of an eclectic blend of both companies and cultures...what? You think it sucks and is bogus? It doesn't suck any less than the name Verizon....:p -- »voipboards.net

| Nah, the other way around. There's a higher chance that AT&T will buy Verizon. I don't see either happening really. But AT&T would eye Verizon. Verizon's value is going down, went from $101 bln to about $83 bln. Plus the company is heavily in debt, it's gonna be near $70 bln soon. That's probably one reason they're selling their phone book division for $17 bln. They may even sell some of their assets. Where did you read that Verizon will be changing their name? I read that MCI will be a subsidary of Verizon when the deal is completed in early January. Investors always thought Verizon would buy Vodafone. No way. An $83 bln company buying a $133 bln company, no way. Verizon getting Alltel (low debt, about $5.6 bln I think) is a sure thing, although Alltel would go nice with Qwest (imagine Qwest Wireless). Plus, Qwest services the areas where Alltel is. I think there will be 3 major players left: AT&T, Verizon, and possibly Qwest (unless a couple companies get together like Level 3, etc). | |

| Re: Only a matter of time Your nuts
Alltel will not be bought. They will not accept any offers from verizon they are not dressing themselves up for a buy out like one person has said in teh pass.
Also Verizon is not the same as Verizon Wireless which would be the only assets that any form of verizon would be interesting in.
the alltel landline could be sold but I doubt it would be verizon as they are simply too small as a landline but quite large as a wireless company.
