| BBTelsys Gone?
My phone has been disconnected for 3 days now. It said that the line has been disconnected by an administrator. I had the 1 year plan. Their number is disconnected and so is my friends on BBtelsys. I guess they closed shop and screwed their customers. Any one have any news? |

| I too am a bbtelsys customer and have without phones for my business for almost 2 days. IM with someone there yesterday and they said that they hoped to have it fixed by End of day yesterday. This is my BUSINESS PHONE and I need it working now. Does anyone know how long it would take to switch to a NEW SERVICE PROVIDER? I need my phones working now. |

| if the bbtelsys stuff doesn't work itself out for you...the carrier that can get your existing phone number working most quickly is the Bell company; if you're in WA that would be Qwest. If you want to maintain your business directory listing then you would order a business line. Current Qwest promo for business lines offers 3 months free or 25% off regular monthly rate for 12 months ... in return for a 12 month term; that promo also waives install fees. If you want to stick with VOIP, switch your lines to Qwest without a promo to claim your number, then do a port to a VOIP carrier, which could take a few weeks. You'll be out the install fees, but keep your number. |

| I've had bbtelsys for around four months now with no problem. Just had a chat session via their site and now they are saying that they are expecting to be up on or around Jan. 3. Doesn't look good for the home team. Might have to do a chargeback with the CC company as I prepaid for a year. |

| my opinion is that it is just so irresponsible of a public utility to be so certain that they'll be back up in 3 days (after their drunken New Year's holiday, certainly), leaving their account base out of service for maybe 5 days. there is no circumstance under which a single one of their customers should continue to trust them. there is absolutely no excuse that their toll-free support number is out of service. what all this reflects is ■ no backups ■ no redundancy ■ no contingency plans ■ no mirror-image hot site standbys ■ no customer focus or empathy.
What miserable losers.
All readers should take heed and remember this when considering the risk of long term prepayment for any VOIP service. |

| reply to compneo6 There have been a number of previous posts regarding BBTelsys - mostly negative. Their favorite trick was billing your account again after a cancellation.
I bailed when they promised a local area code - my reason for going with them - and didn't deliver. And, yes, they then double charged my account. |

It is working very well with Sunrocket, they are #2 in growth at this point. I like the savings and not having to worry about monthly payments. Just because BBTelSys doesn't cut it does not mean that others who offer yearly deals are the same way. What I don't like about Viatalk's $199 deal is that it only pays back 50% prorated when someone cancels, which is putting a lot of faith into the viability of the stability of the product. With SR you get a full pro-rated refund, however, and the company is on solid footing. Their $199 deal is safe, they are not going anywhere but past ATT's and Packet 8's subscriber base in the near future.
I do agree with the sentiments towards BBTelSys. When they first started others and myself warned about them, as it appeared that they were way too small-fry in a big fish pond, operating out of a single-family home with questionable funding. |

| reply to compneo6 I know what happened to BBTelsys
I too have by business lines with BBTelsys and have lost my service. I traced the IP domain of the web interface of the BBTelsys phone lines. It turns out that BBTelsys gets their service from NGT. www.ngt.com NGT is rated very highly. I then called NGT about the situation with BBTelsys. They had never heard of BBTelsys but know of Art Hale, owner of BBTelsys. It turns out that Art has not been paying his bills to NGT. NGT cut him off.
I have called several other VoIP providers and they say it can take up to 6 weeks to switch a VoIP number. This creates a major issue for me and my service business that is dependent on my phone lines. Anyone have a bright idea |

Anyone have a bright idea I do. Have the Bell company do the port as a winback...they can do it faster than anyone else. If you would prefer to stay with VOIP, my contacts at Nuvio will rush and babysit your order and get it done as quickly as possible.
EDIT: another bright idea: reactivate the service with a different NGT reseller! Certainly NGT would provide a selection of resellers. |

If you guys remember a while back (months or so) I researched BBTelSys from the inside out. I had spoken to Art Hale (CEO) who told me his name, but identified himself as a "lowly call center agent". When asked about the technical specs of the system (ie. what codec, how many servers, IP Address of servers, etc) he said that his boss wouldn't let him give that info out. I became suspicious of a company who's CEO doubles as the Call center rep that answers the phone and acts as tech support. I later found out that the receptionist that answers the phone and directs the calls (yes, it's a real person!) is actually his mother. From there, I believe his son monitors the server farm and his wife mans the online chat. The picture of their facility on their website is actually the building next door with their logo photoshopped onto it.

So, Rocky, are you saying NUVIO is selling new contracts at this point? Did they get their E911 problem taken care of then? |

I wouldn't have any issues with a family run business ... the deceptive image of their HQ is troublesome, however ... many family run businesses work out OK; a retailer from Arkansas comes to mind ... plenty of professionally run VC captialized businesses end up tanking... |

As of 1/6/2005 Nuvio's E-911 is not taken care of yet, but they are very prepared for supporting E-911. The Nuvio customer portal is now asking for verification of address, their database will being loaded to fully support E-911 and they tell me they are working closely with Intrado to implement their E-911 solution shortly. »www.intrado.com/main/press/press···1205.jsp |

I think a past topic indicated that they ripped Lingo's website. In fact, their FAQ even had a spot where they forgot to change the Lingo to BBTelSys!!! It was promptly changed when that topic came out.
