| Slowly dropping snr
Heres a odd one .
If the modem is rebooted it shows a snr of 21 then quickly drops down to 17 or 18. After about 24 hours it slowly drops down to 5 or lower at time and then it climbs somewhat again.
Its highly unlikely its the inside wire since its new cat 5 and the modem is only a foot and a half away from the plug in.
Whats really odd is it can remain around 17 or 18 for 10 hours before it starts going down.
Any ideas? |

| reply to davidbrown i've been complaining about this issue to Bell for ages now. Same scenario here....
Tested all wiring however no results.... It happened after I reordered the DSL service... in the RX /TX Blocks under DSL Stats page if I see huge numbers. Then my SNR drops to almost 0 gradually. Sometimes it will come back if I start using the modem i.e. upload especially.
I'm not sure if you would follow me, but please ask if u want me to explain further.
AFAIK, it is related to line card for me atleast. |

| reply to davidbrown I think you may find some answers to your issue via davidbrown's new post regarding an outside wire trouble caused by his neighbour hitting his porch with a truck. Many many times I see posters in here talk about errors on their lines as seen in their modem stats. This can be a symptom of a physical line trouble on their telephone line showing up as "code violations" and "errored seconds". A corroded outside wire can cause all kinds of errors of the data being transmitted and a drop in SNR is the result of that interference. The noise is actually one signal crossing into the frequency range of another signal on the same conductor. Sometimes this "noise" can be heard on the telephone as "static", "hum" or even "cross talk". It can be very elusive to find but in the end it will surface. It takes a very skilled technician to find this type of trouble. If you want to further elaborate on your particular situation...please do so. Give us some details. -- My Canada includes Quebec. |
