| Kevin, you are welcome! I'm kind of new, also since I only joined 25Apr.
I've been enjoying the camaraderie and light banter of Team Helix's forums.
I also appreciate the great amount of knowledge that is transmitted.
It does my heart good to know that these machines are working for the betterment of mankind. I've spent a lot of money on some of them so they might as well do something constructive with their computing power when I'm not using them. (Some of the machines that are folding for the cause aren't mine. But I did get permission from their owners to run the folding program.) I notice no degradation in the performance of any computer doing the folding. I should have started this a LONG time ago! -- Let my lifesong sing to You. | reply to dandelion Hey there everyone,
I decided to join, so I installed F@H on my server, which was doing pretty much nothing (other than being a very light Web/Database server). Its nothing really fancy, but hopefully powerful enough to do some work. (Athlon 1 ghz, 1.2 gigs ram)

| Hello all,
I've been around DSLreports for about four years now. I've got a Fedora server that I figured I'd put to good use. Hopefully it will work better than last time I tried to run F@H. I'll know in about three days, when the work unit finishes. |

| reply to stormbow Welcome! Glad you decided to help with finding a cure for these terrible diseases and disorders we fold proteins for with the hope of a cure - there has been some amazing progress along these lines, which you will find on the home page at Stanford - it is in our links and in some of our mods/members links. Look under articles and facts (I think) to see the amazing progress that has been made since the projects inception.
As sorto mentioned, if you have any trouble using your computer for this, please post a new thread describing what is happening - the F@H client should NOT cause any problems with any computer, as it gives CPU cycles to any application you have running, and only uses those not being used by any application (spare CPU cycles).
My computer is fairly outdated - 2002 with the first P-4 2 gigs that came out - and I have never had any trouble with it - so please don't hesitate to post if you do have any problems of any kind, and the knowledgeable folks in this forum (I am not one of them ) will help you out. -- Some people think they gain through dishonest means, never realizing that in lying, cheating, and other dishonesty, they are losing pieces of themselves, which they can never recover.
