| reply to operezm Re: How dynamic is the SBC DSL Dynamic IP?
From personally experience I would say it changes about once every week to few weeks. The bad news is forget about quasi static, it is not. The good news is that Dynamic DNS service works very well and you can do it all for free. I have done my house and even set it up on my parents DSL and it works to perfection. I access both connections from a memorable domain name instead of an IP and it is all free. |

1 edit | Well, since a lot of people out there do not have routers or firewalls, I'm for blocking some ports that are known for having vulnerabilities or just resource sharing like Windows NetBios port 139.
Blocking port 25 outbound traffic that is not destined for a SBCYahoo mail server also makes a lot of sense. I'm for anything that helps to stop the spammers.
I still remember when spammers hijacked my SMTP server about 5 years ago. It was my fault anyway. I didn't set up the SMTP service correctly and left the mail relay enabled. |
