Brooklyn 11204 Area High Pings

I have been getting some horrible pings to the first hop on my line since I came back from winter break. Today was the worst I've ever experience in terms of pings. I couldn't play any of my multiplayer games without seeing pings in the 100-400MS range. I should be in the 20MS range. This appears to be happening during peak hours. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hey man I thought I was the only one. I've been getting a ping of 250+ in BF2 (usually I'm around 60). Totally unplayable! Good luck

me and my cousin has the exact same problem and we live in 11214, brooklyn. we constantly get 500 ping in when playing world of warcraft. i booted up cs source recently and the lowest ping i've had on any of the servers were 100-120ms

Brooklyn, 11213 here, and yeah, same problem. They keep giving me the nonsense spiel that its the modem, or its on my end.

Interestingly enough, they found shorts on my physical line. I've known this to be a problem for awhile now, as my connection would essentially go to all hell whenever it rained/snowed. Although I KNOW that and the ping issue I have now are unrelated, I'm glad to see them fixing the problem for free.

Line tests show that the problem is mainly coming from a bad router on their network. Now comes the battle of convincing them to take me off of the path. Wheee.

Do you mean my advertised speed, actual connection rate, or what? Though, I'm pretty sure that doesn't have anything to do with my pings.

I'm getting some pretty bad pings on my first hop. The router IP address is 10.32.66.1. Is that the same one that your traffic is being routed through?

pings suck in peak hours my speeds are 2800/715kbps in peak hours but ping is just HORRIBLE cant play multiplayer games. Anyone got any suggestions who i can call to tell them my internet "slows down" at peak hours. I know verizon doesnt support ping/packetloss/gaming all of that bs but maybe if lie to them sayin it slows completely down we can get a switch. Telling the truth wont solve our problem with their super horrible customer service.

Hi, I also live in 11204, Bensonhurst. I wonder if you can help me out? I ordered Dsl service late November, got the kit in early December and was given an activation date of January 6th. So far so good. I was just e-mailed a message from Verizon apologising and saying my new activation date is February 3rd.
I immediately called demanding an explanation and was told "Well, actually the real reason is the D-Slam machine can't handle any more dsl lines and the Central Office has been suspended. They are working on it".
I have to tell my disabled husband something because he will blow a fuse. he thinks he's getting dsl tomorrow at 6p.m. Can you guys give me any hope here? Do you think they'll fix the problem by Feb 3rd. Thanks to anybody who can answer.

Think that pretty much means you're screwed until somone cancels service and creates an opening. That sound about right, guys?

Thats extremely fascinating Mel. So a rep admitted to there being too many people on the DSLAM for them to accomodate? You've just given me more ammo to use in my battles with tech support, thanks. And unfortunately, it does look like you'll have to wait; The awful pings/speed issues many verizon users are experiencing seem to be due to an overload on their network.

Deus-

The router giving me trouble in line tests is 130.81.18.89, with an average of 5% packetloss. Latest test I ran is here: »/quality/nil/1949462

Same problem here in 11204 as well. My ping is all over the place, going from 40 to 2200 within a couple seconds. Bigtime annoyance.

I ran a line quality test and it looks like I'm getting some packet loss at the same router. »/quality/nil/1950159

Not that I understand one word of what you guys are writing to each other with the Ping this and the ping that, I have a question. With this ping thing, when I do get my dsl line (hopefully), am I going to have pings? I don't play computer games. Will the pings affect my getting on the internet and if so how???
And if I get pings, what do I do with them?
Don't mean to sound stupid. I am not technically challenged, I have a cell phone, I have windows xp and I even know some html codes. But Pings??

I also just got off the phone with Earthlink. They told me they can get me a dsl line in 7 to 10 days. She said she would activate me, then mail me the modem. The price is $19.95 per mo for 6 months and $39.95 after that.
She said they use different installers, that is why they can get me a dsl line. so how come (if they use verizon lines) that they can get me a dsl line and that verizon is over capacity. Don't understand this one bit (besides the pings).
Any help would be wonderful.
Thanks, Mel

Thats it Deus. Call tech support, see if you can get them to switch your routing path. Make note of those loss issues, and the router ip. I did, and the tech immediately noticed the same issue, once they realized I knew what I was talking about.

I'm having my routing path changed tomorrow, will let you know how it went.

Basically, ping time is just the amount of time it takes for a specific amount of data to travel from your computer, to a destination, and back ( measured in miliseconds). Lower pings can allow for more responsive web surfing, and a gernerally more enjoyable web experience. High pings will not affect your ability to get on the internet, but they can affect the speed at which pages are displayed.

Same issue here with that router/node. Pings last night were 999ms on a COD2 public server.. where I would normally get around 100ms.

You suck verizon.

Does verizon have a clue that all these customers are not satisified. why are they still advertising with James Earl jones on the tv if they can't deliver the goods.

I never hear of anybody complaining about Cablevision's Optima On Line or anybody else's cable modems.
But all the complaints about Verizon's dsl, well it gets me to wondering.
Oh, one more thing. If you watch an Optima On Line commercial it says they are faster than dsl. If you watch a dsl commercial THEY say they are faster than a cable modem.

I would love to know the truth.
