Re: Speedstream 4060 works in Windows XP Pro?

Well here it is! Please let me know your results!

How to connect to Ameritech DSL on windows XP using the Efficient SpeedStream 4060
Download drivers 3.4.1 from »support.efficient.com/drivers/dr···-033.exe
Extract them and run setup.
:: Setup Wizard::
Hit no on modem pictures number 1.
On the next set hit next.
It will copy files, etc. Just let it do its job.
When told so hook all the wires into the back of the modem. Then hook it into the phone jack. Plug in the power. Lastly hook the usb cord into the pc. When you do this alloy of new hardware found messages will appear. Ignore everything and just let it do its stuff.
Your modem light should turn green!
Click Finish
::Wizard Exit::
::Auto Config wizard appears::
Just hit Cancel asap
::Wizard Closes::

Now go to Start-Control Panel – Network connections – Create a new account
::Wizard::
Hit Next – connect to the internet – setup manually – connect using broadband connection that requires a username and password. Name is Ameritech. Enter your user name and password. Remember after your using name to put @ameritech.net I turned off the firewall. Hit Finish
::Exits wizard::

Click on ATM Connections – Right click and hit properties – Click on Efficient Networks RFC 1483 Intermediate Driver – Hit properties – set the vci to 35 – hit ok then close

Here is the MOST IMPORTANT PART. Local area connection 4 in network connections will say a cable is unplugged. To fix this right click on it and hit disable. Now after that right click on it again and hit enable. Select your Ameritech DSL account and hit connect! Happy surfing! BTW I am connected at 811.4 Kbps.. Is that good?

SCORE!

Thanks a million Ogrt! That did the trick! I'm using Windows XP Pro for anyone that wants to know if it will work in that version.

Hey Bender do you have a cdr drive? Ever since getting Windows XP all my burning programs tell me there is a problem with the aspi manager problems so I can't burn anymore!

Ogrt! I tried everything you said step by step, but when I get to the part where I change the vpi setting, it asks me to restart. Whether I do or don't, the VPI AND VCI both wind up blank again. Then I tried the last step but no luck. Help! Do you have any ideas? I have tried to install before, many times with no luck...is there any way to remove a history of everything I've tried (in the registry?) Or change this VCI number in the registry? I am clueless!

Ramsestut, when you install the drivers Ogrt lists, do you get the auto config wizard afterwards for them (not the install wizard but the one after they've been successfully installed)? When I installed them, I didn't use the wizard for auto config and it worked until I rebooted.

I couldn't figure out why my connection failed until I let it do the auto config, then it work flawlessly. If the wizard keeps popping up, let it config your connection and see if that does the trick.

You will have to reinstall most CD burning software once after you "upgrade" to Windows XP

One problem! Some people's VPIs and VCPs are different...Mine is 0*105, not 35. This is the exact same trick to get the 3060 working on 2k, just modified for XP.

My 4060 works fine with Verizon but after every reboot the 4th connection always says cable unplugged. I can still connect even with the message. If I disable and then enable it all is fine. Any idea why connection 4 is "unplugged" after reboot?

It took me a few hours of playing with the settings and *BAM* she works better than ever!

P.s. I wasn't able to get any help from Verizon's Tech Support. No one had the right answers to my questions and they said the patch they just released on 11-07-01 doesn't work for 70% of their customers (me included.)

away2ro: Welcome to the Funhouse. Hey, any other info you get on this is appreciated. We'll add it to the FAQ. You may want to get this put up in the Verizon forum too. Your forum mod should be able to add it there.

Is it true that the instructions posted by ogrt48 don't work with XP home edition? I don't exactly know what I'm doing but had my week old XP machine online for several days, with two or three 'unconnected port' icons in the tray. Tried to remedy the situation last night and boogered everything up. Am gonna un- & re- install tonight after work.

Will I succeed if I follow ogrt48's post?
