Re: No sense

Too all the replied. I have rewritten the review to hopefully clarify my meaning.

And ark_con, yes I am on remote switch with pair-gain technology and it does kill modem speed. 56k type connections are no longer possible as the signal is now digitized twice before reaching your ISP's modem bank. ADSL is also obviously not an option either.

My point is while pair-gain is a solution to meet simple telephony, it is totally incompatible with the expanding internet and a phone company offering more services. They idea of selling more and making more money?

Moreover my real problem is the years that went by before Alltel came clean and explained my remote switch was too old to upgrade for DSL and they had no plans what so ever to upgrade me anytime in the foreseeable future. Also while told by talking to cooperate customer service I could get a cut around, local supervisors have also stonewalled that as an option for me.

Thanks for clarifying your post. Yes, pair gain doesn't play well with dial up for the reasons you mentioned.

I hate to hear that you've run up against a brick wall, even with the local management. Cut arounds aren't fun...especially for records' sake, but it would seem in your case that the local supervisor would give more of an ear to your issue. In any case, keep calling corporate and give them your gripes. If your neighborhood is interested in DSL like you say, have them call and request it as well. Alltel IS in business to make money, and maybe if they get enough calls in a concentrated area, it will get to the right person's ears.

Good luck
