I've known about "crunching" for a while, I think the first one I heard of was the SETI one. I've been spending a lot of time here at BBR since I was first checking out Fios last March. I built a nice PC, and I have a fast broadband connection both of which sit idle about 20 hours a day. I picked UD because I've lost some friends and family to different kinds of cancer and I have friends and family who are cancer survivors. My 76yo Mother-in-law is just now finishing a chemo regime for non-hodgkins lymphoma, her 5 year outlook is good... This just seems like a good thing to do.

Saw it right here at BBR...

Just assembled a *DEDICATED* Cruncher! (Dual P3-733 Server board), that will (hopefully) be Crunching 24/7 @ 100% CPU for UD...

Never knew about UD till i was a memeber of DSLreports.

Right now its running on the kids computer but that computer has about 18 hours of idle time so i thought i would give it something to do.

Next year i plan on building its own server details will be coming later.

I have been aware of the distributed computing thing for some time. I thought it was a very useful thing. Just recently, mrspipur and I replaced our ancient P3s with new Dell dual core XPS 410s, so we had two old, but useable, computers just sitting around. Now the old P3s are happily crunching away!

I had visited the BBR site for years, but only to use the "Tools" the site provides, then I did something very strange....I decided to start giving back.

I've known about crunching for years. Decided to use my new pc w/Vista and have it 'do' something...I don't do photos or gaming, etc...so I have plenty of RAM available, and since I have RoadRunner access... 'meep meep' as he says always!

I have been a member of BBR for quite a while and have noticed there were teams crunching so when I got this new puter with enough horse power to run it I jumped on board

I'm not new, but what got me to join was: First I wanted to know what the story was to those cute spinnas, but what hooked me was that some of the guys I admired most in the hardware and other forums, were crunching (and folding) and I realized I wanted to be like them. When I found out what it is about I knew I just had to do it.

Now if only I can get a few more systems built for it, heh...
