You aint gonna like this - Rumoured Price hikes

As if it wasn't bad enough, there are rumours floating around I've heard from several sources that there are rate hikes in our future both for internet and cable TV.

One shocker - UltraLite and Lite UP $5
Express UP $2
Extreme UP $2 for those who aren't on the $46.95 plan already (every extreme customer to go to 6/800 service)

Then there's cable increases on the way too.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They're gonna lose a LOT of customers this time!

Wow.

Very smart.

After removing Usenet, Webspace (outsourced to free Geocities), and E-Mail (outsourced to Yahoo, which is cheaper)...they're increasing the prices...

Boo-urns

Most people in this area will probably still stick to Rogers though seeing as there aren't any good alternatives.

I agree with JHero. I'll stay with extreme because of the price incentive. For now. I'll have to reconsider next Nov when my time is up.
If the cost of basic cable goes up though, I can't see why I'd keep it. ExpressVu is cheaper, so I'd probably get a small dish.

Welp, looks like I am forced into the upgrade now. I just hope they don't screw up my connection when they do it!

Oh, and on top of all that, for many of us, speeds are deteriorating due to various factors including congestion, poor maintenance/network management, and (possibly) mismanagement of traffic shaping boxes.

So they're offering inferior service with fewer features that is costing them less -- sure sounds like a good reason for rate hikes

Hopefully many of us have been driven far enough that we won't be silent and passive about this. A good start would be the press and government contacts that have been given out here before.

Can they hike the price if you are on the better choice bundle contract?

I have to admit, this is the best way to deal with network congestion

Did you see "IhateRogers.ca" flashed on there?

But more to the point, they touched the essence of what's going on with Rogers and most corporations ... the customer is becoming the enemy from whom they must drag every penny kicking and screaming instead of the friend who would gladly give them money. The trouble is, the corporations are creating the situation of customer as enemy all by themselves.

It was a great show. I've written to them.

The sad thing is that there is little indication that corporate culture is going to change any time soon.

You can pull down and watch these episodes if you missed them at

h**p://www.cbc.ca/consumers/market/files/services/underdogs/index.html

That is. Unless Rogers decides you're exceeding your mandate.

Strangely, although I spend very little time in front of the TV, I happened to catch the recent Marketplace -- even noticed the IHateRogers.ca flash on the screen!

I was amused to see on their website the list of "Top Ten Customer Service Mistakes":
www.cbc.ca/consumers/market/files/services/underdogs/list.html

Wow! I can see Rogers in every single one of them! The ones that especially stand out are:

Lipstick on the Pig
That one practically *defines* Rogers: dress up your corporate image - website, TV ads, brochures -- those annoying trademark musical tones -- but leave the same sordid uncaring customer service organization behind it.

Technology Shortcut
We're all familiar with the supremely annoying Automated Man that now fronts calls to ALL Rogers numbers, makes you say things that make you sound and feel like an idiot, and understands nothing that you say -- guaranteeing that you're a mad and frustrated customer *before* you even reach the CSR. And how about those emails to "Internet Support" that they clearly never even read? Rogers is worse than just guilty of trying to use the "technology shortcut" as a cure-all -- they have technology shortcuts that just plain don't work!

Real Cost of Cost Reduction
What better example than the recent elimination of newsgroup service which now costs subscribers anywhere from $12 to $30 a month to replace. And give us Yahoo for email which is free anyway, replace ad-free webspace with useless and ad-infested Geocities which also has technical issues and no support, fail to maintain your network to the standards that you advertise --- then hit us with price increases and expect us to be contented customers!

You Get What You Pay For
This is about employees -- and with Rogers, yes, when you pay them squat, invest nothing in training, don't even keep them informed of the most basic issues, and incent them only to keep the call times down and get the customer off the line, and force them to follow often counterproductive "procedure" -- then as a corporation you definitely get and deserve what you pay for. Unfortunately it's the customers that suffer.

Lack of Leadership
One word: Ted. And the whole culture at Rogers. One need look no further than the now-famous fiasco with the $12,000 cellphone bill for which Ted is *still* trying to apologize now that the press got hold of the story and it turns out the victimized customer was a lawyer and her partner a journalist.

Culture of the New
We hear a lot from Ted about "convergence" of the media in his empire; Home Phone is currently hot; video on demand digital cable is hot (an edge over satellite). But if you're a plain old hi-speed Internet customer with a performance problem the message is clear: stop bothering us -- you know we're not going to do anything about it!

Passion Loss
No loss there; with Rogers there never was any; there is an old thread I started somewhere about my attempt to *upgrade* a Rogers service (digital cable) -- the CSR had absolutely no information, could answer none of my questions, obviously had no interest in helping in any way with this *sale* (not even a service issues -- a sale!) -- and eventually hung up on me. The only passion I've ever seen from Rogers is in collecting perceived overdue balances -- even when the overdue balance is their own damn fault and I thought it had already been corrected -- twice!

Re: You aint gonna like this - Rumoured Price hikes

What f***ing morons, I can't put it any other way, I'm sorry.

REMOVE SERVICES, AND INCREASE PRICE = BULL + THE STUFF THAT COMES OUT OF THEIR ASS.

If this is true, then I really am not sure what else they could possibly do.

I'm stuck with rogers cause dumbass Bell decides that even though my neighbourhood is quite large, they don't want to provide cable access here leaving me stuck with Rogers and ONLY Rogers.

Good Game idiots.

Didn't they raise the price of Lite 1-2 months ago, by $5 already? This will definitely not fly.
