Well, we all hate rate increases but is it at some point going to happen. What people ALWAYS fail to realize is that there is a reason that these happen. OHHH A rogers employee being fed ted's crap (ironic you're using aliant then :P)
let's go over your points, shall we?
said by Rogers Emp :
1. New Services...and yes Rogers is ALWAYS launching new services ie increasing the Lite speed to 1Mb...and there are more speed increases to happen okay, increasing the Lite speed should effect the Lite Users, not the rest of us.
said by Rogers Emp :
2. Home Phone Service...
Which carries it's own monthly fees, independant of Cable Television or Internet. The only thing it shares in common is the Company and the Cable it's delivered on.
said by Rogers Emp :
3. VOD and ROD
okay, when I buy a movie from VOD, i pay for it. If i subscribe to TMNOD, I pay for it. It shouldn't effect the rest of us.
said by Rogers Emp :
4. HDTV PVR units
Which have an extremly high rental fee, in addition to the extremly high PVR fee, therefore it shouldn't be effecting the rest of us.
said by Rogers Emp :
So as upset as you may be at this..please take the time to understand that even the competition is increasing their costs...and by the way it is much higher than what Rogers is increasing Yeah yeah yeah. How do your costs increase when you remove free services such as USENET, Rogers provided Email, and Webspace?

| reply to Rogers Emp OK ...
Let's look at this in some perspective.
Has the VALUE of Lite increased by the amount of the price increase?
Internet people shouldn't be paying for HomePhone unless they order it. Same with VOD and ROD (which incidentally, many of us cannot get like ME!) let alone HDPVR.
Each service should be standing on its own merits. |

| reply to sbrook It looks like the speeds have changed as well, not just the price.
Rogers Lite - now 1.0 mbps - $34.95
Sympatico Basic - now 512 kbps - $35.00
The mid-range deals don't look so bad now compared to before. The Ultra Lite (Rogers) and Basic Lite (Sympatico) seem like more of a scam now though, considering what you get for your money. |

| reply to sbrook $21.99 Ultra Lite $3.00 modem rental fee ________________________ $24.99 for 128kbs
Not worth it anymore!
It looks as though Sympatico has already changed their rates to match Rogers prices increases. The difference now between Ultra Lite and Express being only $20, with a giant difference in speed it would seem to me that they are only trying to entice customers to upgrade.
Considering the difference in comparison, I think I am falling for their corporate bullsh!t and may possibly upgrade. More value for your money, I suppose. |

It would be nice if Rogers just posted the prices for everything on their website. |

| reply to Newfie Going up by different amounts because they HAVE been different in the past ... Now everybody will pay the same price as those at the centre of the universe.
The differences in price were due to the grandfathering of the price plans of the original cable operators. It must have been hell for Rogers to keep track of all the different pricing schemes. |

| reply to corster said by corster :With these hikes, Rogers is going REGIONAL PRICING. That's Right! Somebody in suburban toronto could be paying more than somebody in the Core, cause Rogers knows damn well we have more disposable income. No, they're going away from regional pricing and aligning all the pricing nationally (with the exception of New Brunswick as it has different packages totally). |

If it were really a lucrative market to deploy DSL, I'm sure Bell would've done so. That's not to say the won't in the future, but I assure you both Bell and Rogers are in the money making business. edit: typos are fun! |

| reply to Newfie that the end of the line for rogers cable...basic cable for upwards of $50 monthly is insane...im going to ExpressVu...if only Bell was ****ing smart enough to bring ADSL into my area in Markham (west of McCowan Rd. and north of Highway 7)..bell don't even know how many of my friends, co-workers complain that rogers is crap and they wished they were offered sympatico hs ...heck, we even begged the csr over the phone...and that was probably 4 years ago and they say "in 6 months"...nother year goes by...nothing..call again...same story...yet its 2006 and nothing... it pisses me off that bell isn't capitalizing on such a lucrative market.. |

Mr. Indendant, I'm not a momma's boy, making me look bad! LOL!
I think you should hold your mom's advice to heart and have some patience!
Otherwise, I pretty much agree with you on the wireless part except I'm in a subdivision. The co-op wont allow new holes to be drilled without permission and blah blah blah, so they actually ran the wire through the intake heating duct going to the wireless router and my moms computer in the kitchen (don't ask!)
Hopefully I'll get 9mbps since my computer is directly above the kitchen.
