| Spybot Search and destroy.
Ok I had to work on someones computer the other day and I noticed they didn't have any spyware scanners. I installed the latest version of Spybot and I'm wondering if I got a hijacked address. I went to spybot.info and downloaded the newest version. Now the reason I ask if the browser is hijacked to a different address is cause of something I seen in the program. When you run spybot it says if you remove the advertising robots with this program it will not run. I don't know if that is what it said exactly but it was something like that. Maybe it was another program popping up with that message because it could tell when spybot was started. Now can someone tell me if there are bots in spybot now? |

| Spybot warns you, and rightly so, that removing spyware may cause certain programs to not run properly. Personally if that would become a problem with any software I had it would be immediately removed along with any spyware it would force on me. -- Nemo me impune lacessit. | reply to XknightHawkX Oh is that what it said. I thought I was seeing a message that said not to uninstall the advertising bots that came with this program. I have had spybot installed on this sytem for about a year and a half and don't remember seeing that message that is what was bothering me. I was worried that someone paid them off to get away with something. |

| reply to JonPaulNline The tutorial has an error: they fail to mention that after downloading and installing new definitions Spybot must be shut down and restarted, before scanning for problems is started. -- Dawn,n,The time when men of reason go to bed. (Ambrose Bierce.) |

It's Spybot's popup, but perhaps it could be worded better: i.e. saying " ...using this program." might be clearer. What it is warning new users about is that removing certain nasties using Spybot will result in loss or restriction of internet access. Obviously this would be quite annoying. I haven't seen a recent thread or FAQ discussing this, but perhaps someone else can link to one. -- Dawn,n,The time when men of reason go to bed. (Ambrose Bierce.) |
