[BOINC] Cant connect to client

When i load up Bonic i get an error "Cannot connect to a bonic client" I thought it was norton internet security so turned that off, still no connection. I made sure i typed in "localhost" for client but still no go.

Is there still network problems or is there something wrong on my end?

Thanks.

That is a local problem. Most likely it is Norton causing it. Norton is hard to get set up properly, hopefully someone with experience with that program will come along and help you. (I know you said Norton was off, but that doesn't change the answer.)

Also check and see if Windows Firewall is on. I had that happen a couple times.

BOINC is also having problems. Perhaps this is the issue?

There is a lab-wide problem (not just SETI@home) that is causing our connection to the world to briefly disappear every few minutes. Otherwise everything is working just fine.

EDIT - Now that I re-read your post, I see that you are not connecting to your local machine. Are you running the standard version? Or did you install the optimized version?

The BOINC GUI manager boincmgr.exe talks to boinc.exe - Boinc needs to be running first.

If you installed it as a service, check task monitor to see that boinc.exe is running. If not, open a command window (dox box) and type net start boinc.

For remote management, you must have port 1043 open in the machine firewall.

i typed in the run box "net start bonic" but nothing happened (a command prompt showed for a fraction of a second).

I do have bonic as a service installed though.

Any help still?

Have you tried uninstalling BOINC and reinstalling the latest client?

does boinc.exe show up as a running process in task manager?

if not,

try opening the dos box by start \ accessories \ command prompt, which will open a black dos box, and then typing net start boinc
