I have used this site for some time... »www.tss2000.nl/site_page ··· php?CV=1

I stopped using themexp.org when they started wrapping there downloads with crap. There was a way to get around the wraps but i don't remember it.

Reports are they disabled the workaround, we used to be able to click the link, refuse the download, then after several tries it would give you the zip file instead the spyware laden exe file .

I stopped downloading from them for the same reason.

Here's my current wallpaper... Made it with Photoshop CS2!

For themes & stuff I use the sites that dadkins See Profile suggested!

I also used to use themexp.org untill they started ruining their stuff with spyware!

I'd be interested to see links to screen savers that have been checked for spy/ad/crapware. Screen savers, smileys, cute cursors etc seem to be popular methods of installing that kind of stuff. Just having the website promise "no spyware" is not sufficient any more.

Truth!

The ones I posted were clean (past results are no guarantee of presently clean).
With your post, may be a good idea to put some common sense guidelines for people who are new to these things.

1- If you have to install anything to get something, don't do it!
2- Look at what you are getting. Wallpaper should be one of a few formats, like .bmp (bitmap), .jpeg, .gif, basically a graphics format. If you see a different extension, be careful. If the "wallpaper" has an extension of .exe cancel the download and run from that site.
Also if the package is coming to you as a .zip file, I'd scan it with a security checker and then also look at what was unzipped.
3- It is a good idea to see if you can get a feel for the site's motivation.
a- some sites are just people sharing a collection
b- some sites have ad revenue tied to it, and could be fine, the person is trying to help with bandwidth costs.
c- some sites want membership, a site like Caedes will give you 5 papers, then stop and require membership
d- some are spyware driven, heed the warnings given above, and if you really want a picture from one of those sites, the only safe way may be doing a screenshot of it (but quality will probably suffer), or try to figure out a name for the shot and do a Google image search trying to find it elsewhere.
e- Some sites are blatant copy-write rip-offs, they grab and post with no regard to another's rights, sometimes even cropping the artist's ID from the work. What you get there could be ok from a security standpoint, you have to answer some questions on a personal level, we can't answer them for you or tell you what to do there.
f- if you don't like the 'feel' of the site, leave. There are plenty of sites on the net with good stuff, it is not worth risking things on a site that makes you uncomfortable.

If you search the digital imaging forum, you'll come up with half a dozen threads on this subject.

Oh, and you're always free to use any of my stuff in the gallery.

I would certainly trust your software Candle.
Your screen-savers and the ones that came with Windows are the only ones on my computer.

Image your hard drive, install the theme, get the needed files and put somewhere safe, then reload the image you made earlier, put the needed files where they go and BOOM! you got the theme without all their scumware.

Seems like an awful lot of work just for a theme .. especially if there are clean sites you can go to.
