| [General] Just a Fax Idea You know I was just thinking to myself...
I pay $10 for a fax line that essentially is for just the number since I have email fax. So I pay About $20 to $21 each month which is about the same for a POTS line without Long Distance included.
I was thinking it would be nice if VOIP providers had like a alternative on where you could get a local number for the price of a virtual number and then you can forward your efax or myfax to it. Essentially, you would get around the problem about how some free email fax services give you a non local number.
So for those of you who are saying, why not just drop your fax line and use the number given by the email fax?
1. I've already given my fax number to several friends and a company that I receive faxes from every once in a while.
2. I really like my number.
3. The local number is very useful for people around my area.
4. I really like my number.
Does anyone else have any other thoughts about this or run across this? What have you guys done where the fax simply wasn't reliable?  | |

| Re: [General] Just a Fax Idea Many use Sunrocket's included signature number for just that purpose. It is a free number to use as you please, it can be set up with distinctive ring. The fax options for that number are varied. You could hook up a standalone fax machine and it comes "to life" when the second number is called (understanding the distinctive ring.) You can also use this setup for outgoing faxes. Others simply forward their local SR number to free fax services like k7.net or Stanaphone fax. No need to pay extra as that second number is included for free. | |

Something like 11cents/page and that's it. They also have software so you can fax from any appliction (Like the faxing inbuilt to Windows)

What I like about fax1 is that it is "pay as you go". 99% of my faxing (and it's once or twice a month and only a couple of pages) is outbound... | |

1 edit | NexBoom will allow you to purchase a virtual number for $6/month and you can set it to go to your email without paying for efax. The only thing is if you are sending a fax the fax machine will have to be hooked directly to the router. This way you are never charged for faxing at all! All I did is turn on my fax on my voip control panel then I receive them on email.

The only problem is just like landline faxing, if you pick up the phone the fax will be disrupted. This is why I suggested a virtual number. Without the virtual number it would be $0 extra per month. | |

| FreeDigits is about to give a way fax numbers. Inbound comes as a PDF to your email. Outbound can be done with any ATA that support T.38
I was an early tester and was able to consistently fax out 40 page documents with any issues.

I did the scanner thing for a while and it sucked. I always end up going back to my trusty 10 year old fax machine for outbound. I'd love to have the freedigits service if they let me use my fax machine for outbound. What's the ATA cost... What model please!? | |

They give you a free fax number for inbound which comes as a PDF.
I trust me 10 year old fax machine for outbound as well. The other stuff is crude compared to it | |

not working well, less than 50% chance to send out fax. Even when it reports successfully sent fax, but recipient side quality is horrible, many missing lines. | |

I use CallWave. For $3.95 a month, I get:
• a local phone number with voicemail (with toll free portal number for checking messages away from home)
•a local fax number (PDF is readable via email or software below)
•configurable VM with SMS or email notification, attachment, etc.
• Internet Answering Machine software that:
- displays caller ID with name
- instantly shows who's calling your home (anywhere you are, on the road, in the office, etc)
- stores VM messages for instant retrieval on your computer
- stores incoming FAX for reading/print from your computer
- logs all incoming calls to your home number
No need to login on the Web as my VM messages, faxes, and incoming call logs are there on my laptop and home computer.
To set it up, I simply set my Lingo line to simultaneously ring the Callwave phone number. I turned off VM on Lingo, so CW would take messages.
I also really like my Callwave Fax number. xxx-xxx-4343.
Callwave has a free trial period, and it also has different service levels (e.g, pick up incoming call to your house from your laptop). It can be associated with any phone numbers (even your cell phone).
I'm sounding like a CW sales rep (I'm not), but oh well, it's made my VOIP line so much more useful.
For sending fax from home, I keep an account with PinCity. | |
